Job description

Hauptman Ham, LLP, an intellectual property law firm located in Northern Virginia, has an immediate opportunity for an outstanding full-time legal assistant (paralegal/secretary) with 1-5 years of IP Legal experience. The IP Legal Assistant supports a large U.S. practice group and reports to the Practice Manager. This position requires the ability to work independently, be able to adjust daily priorities, and may be called on to help to back up other practice group members, as available and necessary. The position requires a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload, ability to communicate well with other members of the team, anticipate needs and identify solutions to problems. This position will report to the Practice Manager and may be called upon to support other practice areas, as necessary.

Duties may include but not limited to:

  • Review and respond to emails.
  • Review and distribute team hard mail.
  • Providing overflow assistance, as needed.

Minimum one year of IP legal experience required. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and general office equipment is necessary. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills required and the candidate must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, cooperation, respect for others, and relationship-building skills.

Candidates who have Korean or Japanese reading and writing skills are preferred. Understanding of the USPTO patent process and familiarity with AQX Law Firm intellectual property management software and ProLaw are a plus.

High School Diploma or higher preferred.
