What You Will Do *

  • Provide technician level support of ROTHR MARCAP and RACER receive site systems including written/verbal technical reports on system status. Performs system troubleshooting, using complex test equipment setups and potentially nonstandard or undocumented procedures on various radar receive system equipment including advanced fiber optic networks, digital waveform generators, digital receivers, phased array antennas, RF hardware, digital hardware, server clusters, advanced communication equipment, environmental control and monitoring equipment and more.
  • Provide onsite support for equipment operation and maintenance including bench level set up, testing, troubleshooting and repair of various OTHR equipment/components as needed. Support preparation and execution OTHR system enhancements, equipment installation, system integration, maintenance, etc. at local and remote sites requiring moderate travel. Coordinate with engineering groups, ROTHR program QA and EHS to support development and execution of system preventative maintenance routines including walk around inspections of engineering spaces when onsite. 
  • Will collaborate with various ROTHR engineering groups for system experiments and data collections often in role as the onsite liaison with ROTHR O&M and customer(s). Support data extraction, transfer, and delivery to various test groups IAW appropriate data handling procedures. Execute project level tasking from field engineering leadership with little onsite supervision in compliance with accepted RTX best practices and local site policies. Work typically requires advanced OTHR system technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals, ROTHR SOPs, or similar documents.
  • Support logistics and procurement activities; receive, inspect, inventory, stage shipments, and store equipment IAW ROTHR and Raytheon local policies. Support equipment warranty claims on behalf of ROTHR engineering with various COTS manufacturers. Assemble/build components, harnesses, equipment racks, subsystems, specified test configurations, etc. assigned for support of various tasks. 
  • Perform technical documentation review, generate drawings to capture system/test configurations, and generate production documentation redlines for enhancements. Candidate performs all other related duties as assigned and required.
  • The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is equally at home working independently or within a team.  Comfortable executing a wide range of tasks; from manual labor to highly skilled technical services. Adaptable to varying work environments and scenarios requiring various levels of discretion. Possess strong communications skills and capable of providing innovative solutions to complex challenges. Willing to adapt and remain flexible with unconventional schedules, travel routines, tasking, and responsibilities. This position will report to the RIS ROTHR IOT Team manager coordinating project assignments from the RMD Program Manager. Proficiency with test equipment for HF-VHF RF systems; fiber optic, power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum, network, and logic analyzers, multi-meters, BER testers etc. Ability to create documentation, troubleshoot and/or repair cable terminations; cannon plug, fiber-optic (including splicing), network, communications, RF including phase matching, etc.


Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years of experience directly related to ROTHR Operations and Maintenance with an emphasis on system operation, performance of corrective, preventive, and intermediate level maintenance as well as bench component level troubleshooting/repair, maintenance tracking and logistics support.
  • Computer experience, Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux, Adobe, Microsoft Office, leaf and spine fiber optic networks, etc.  Some experience supporting field experiments to include setup and operation of nonstandard equipment and test scenarios in collaboration multiple groups or teams. Ability to quickly learn nonstandard equipment operation, test concepts, and use of new technology to support unconventional subsystem/system use applications within OTHR field. Ability to work autonomously troubleshooting problems with efficiency, possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • 1+ years working with BAE DDRX RX system with focus on leaf and spine network, timing and synchronization ROC /TOC , operational control configurations (data diode), data recording controls, MarCap and ROTHR data products, system level troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience in technical role at ROTHR Receive, Transmit, and/or Consolidated Operations and Control Center with an advanced understanding of ROTHR radar concepts/principles.
  • Proficient with operation and maintenance of BAE DDRX equipment, Starlink communications, ROTHR DL380 server clusters, DWG equipment, and computer peripherals.
  • Certifications such as: Fiber Optic installation and repair, 2m Solder repair, LOTO, forklift operation, Electronics associate’s degree or 4yrs equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working with ROTHR field engineering group and/or engineering group.

  • Employees primarily will be working onsite with a set schedule; however, must be willing to work unconventional schedules, at times, in offsite locations with flexible travel routines, often requested on short notice.

  • This position is primarily located in Freer, Texas; however, will include work at the Premont, Texas site as well as moderate travel to ROTHR sites in Virginia and Puerto Rico.
