Come join one of Americaโ€™s fastest-growing insurance companies. Since 1848, National Life Group has aimed to keep our promises, providing families with stability in good times and in bad. Throughout that history, we have provided peace of mind to those families as they plan their futures. Our mission extends beyond the insurance and annuities policies that we offer. We strive to make the world a better place through our grants from our charitable foundation, paid volunteer time for our employees, environmentally sustainable and healthy workplaces, and events that promote the work of nonprofits in our own backyard. We foster a collaborative environment with opportunities for growth and encourage our associates to live our values: Do good. Be good. Make good.

Our culture has been deliberately built to foster curiosity and provide opportunities to learn and grow, both as people and investors. The flat and collaborative nature of our team promotes an atmosphere where the best ideas are continually expressed and rewarded. Our pursuit of excellence is unwavering.

Please note that we do not offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Role Summary

The role owns the integrity, consistency, and governance of investment data across its full lifecycle and serves as the primary business-side partner to IT in the design, enhancement, and operation of the investment data warehouse. This is a hands-on leadership role for a practitioner who understands both the data infrastructure and the business destination, including feeds, ETL, reconciliation, exception management, ALM, investment committee and Board reporting, asset-class reporting, capital and rating agency deliverables. The ideal candidate brings strong insurance investment data experience, sound judgment, technical fluency, and the ability to translate effectively among investment professionals, accountants, and IT engineers. The role also champions a data-first culture and continuous improvement across the investment division. This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain common business definitions and a governed data set for internal and external reporting.
  • Define and enforce data quality standards, exception-management routines, and controls; detect, escape, and remediate data errors at the source.
  • Maintain documentation of data lineage from source systems through the investment data warehouse to reporting outputs.
  • Own the integrity of inputs to and outputs from the investment accounting platform, including new-asset setup, trade activity, corporate actions, pricing, and analytics feeds.
  • Ensure classifications and data attributes support statutory reporting, including SSAP treatment, NAIC designations, Schedule D/BA/DB feeds, and RBC/capital reporting inputs.
  • Partner with investment accounting on reconciliations among the accounting system, custodian records, and the data warehouse; own resolution of breaks affecting reporting.
  • Support quarter-end and year-end close with a validated, reconciled, governed data set on a reliable calendar.
  • Serve as the investment team product owner for the investment data warehouse by defining requirements, prioritizing the enhancement backlog, and representing business needs in architecture decisions.
  • Partner with IT on vendor feed onboarding, pricing and ratings feeds, analytics and benchmark data, ETL design, and automation of manual data processes.
  • Perform user acceptance testing for warehouse changes and feed migrations and certify data before release to reporting consumers.
  • Manage relationships with market data vendors, including licensing scope and data usage.
  • Provide governed, analysis-ready data for investment committee dashboards and packets, Board and risk committee exhibits, ALM and hedging analytics, credit migration and concentration reporting, and rating agency and regulatory surveys.
  • Fulfill ad hoc data requests from portfolio managers, senior leadership, and control functions with accuracy and speed; build repeatable extracts to retire one-off processes.
  • Advance the division's analytics tooling, including SQL, Power Query/Power BI, and Python, and identify opportunities to apply automation and AI to data validation and reporting production.
  • Provide direction and coaching to analyst resources supporting data operations, as applicable.

  • Proven ability to operate as a translator between investment professionals, accountants, and IT engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience across public fixed income, private credit, structured products, mortgage loans, alternatives, and derivatives data.
  • Working fluency in statutory investment reporting concepts, including SSAP accounting treatment, NAIC designations, and annual statement investment schedules.
