Job description

POSITION: Casting Engineer, Gas Turbine Alloys

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL

STATUS: Salary-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Experienced casting engineer with in-depth knowledge of investment casting process, sand casting process, and nickel alloys used in gas turbine components. This includes understanding the effects of heat treatment and manufacturing processing on properties. Execution and validation of design casting requirements at existing and new suppliers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

ยท Review and execute approval of special manufacturing processes that have casting or related metallurgical requirements

ยท Cast gas turbine material knowledge: Stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys

ยท Identifying heat treatment requirements

ยท Verify appropriate casting manufacturing processes and sequences will produce parts that meet metallurgical requirements. This includes:

ยท Investment casting, sand casting, heat treatment

ยท Material related non-conformance assessments and dispositions

ยท Root cause analysis

ยท Engineering drawing review for casting requirements

ยท Responsible for material and process qualification specification creation and revisions

ยท Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training

ยท Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering or other relevant field.

ยท Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSMโ€™s EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

ยท 10+ years experience with investment casting and/or sand casting of metal alloys used for gas turbines

ยท Familiar with equiaxed, directionally solidified, and single crystal casting processes.

ยท Familiar with commercial material specifications โ€“ domestic and international

ยท Able to interpret engineering prints

ยท Available for travel to suppliers for qualification review and audits, as-needed

ยท Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

ยท Must be a detail-oriented, high energy, self-starter with the ability to drive the successful completion of projects within specified time frames

ยท Process and Team-oriented; able to work with a diverse workforce

ยท Strong written and oral communication skills

ยท Trustworthy, quick learning, innovative and reliable Quality assurance experience in production environment

ยท Working knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques (penetrant, ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle) preferred
