Job description

Job Summary:

The Investment Specialist will serve as a central point of communication between the Family Office, its clients, and third-party investment managers. The Investment Specialist will work closely with the other members of the Family Office's investment team, as well as Accounting, Finance, Tax and Family Services colleagues. The Investment Specialist is responsible for helping the Family Office deepen and strengthen client and advisor relationships through review of asset allocation and select investment opportunities. The Investment Specialist will have exposure to all aspects of the investment program and will work with select investment managers and external advisors to provide a seamless delivery of exceptional service to clients of the Family Office. This position will deal with highly sensitive and confidential information. Absolute discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct investment reviews with clients to discuss the clients' current investment objectives and prepare recommendations.

  • Support coordination of various client engagement efforts and act as resource for investment communication.

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating investment reporting files for all investment documentation received.

  • Participate in the creation of presentations, investment reports, and transaction schedules for stakeholders.

  • Conduct financial analysis, prepare investment models, and provide structure and transactional support on various investment opportunities pursued by clients of the Family Office.

  • Build excellent working relationships with internal and external clients and advisors.

  • Work with software providers to ensure accuracy of investment reporting.

  • Assist in the accounting and treasury process, as appropriate, ensuring accurate and timely completion.

  • Conduct investment analysis, due diligence, and research on market themes.

  • Assist with monitoring existing fund investments, co-investments and manager relationships.

  • Assist in the preparation of investment memoranda, investor letters, and portfolio updates.

  • Participate in update calls with investment managers, as requested.

  • Prepare and monitor financial reports and statements requested by stakeholders.

  • Participate in special projects and additional tasks as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • At least seven (7) years' experience working in a financial services firm, investment manager or family office. Experience in investment banking, a family office or with high-net-worth clients encouraged.

  • Bachelor's degree with focus on finance, economics or accounting. Additional degrees and certifications are a plus.

  • Advanced knowledge of investment products and strategies including passive investments, mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity, and structured notes.

  • Strong investment literacy across public and private markets.

  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of wealth management including, but not limited to, credit, deposits, trusts and financial planning.

  • Evidence of self-motivation, initiative, and the ability and willingness to learn and accept higher-level responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational, time management, and planning skills with the ability to independently prioritize work.

  • Demonstrates a professional and positive demeanor at all times.

  • Detail orientated with superior organizational skills.

  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with others while also able to work independently.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and assist with other duties as assigned.

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities and multi-task with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must be highly confidential, exercise absolute discretion, and display strong judgment. Experience handling sensitive and/or confidential financial information and maintaining ongoing confidentiality

  • Computer proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Bloomberg. Additional experience with investment reporting software (e.g., Addepar) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment.

  • Exposure to travel conditions by automobile, airplane, or public transportation.

  • Ability to work in Detroit and travel as required.
