Reporting Staff: This position will manage non-exempt operational staff

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Must be flexible to work overtime and weekends as necessary as customer demands could cause staff to work out side normal business operating hours.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Operations Manager is a self-starting, people-oriented and experienced professional who will manage and guide United’s 3PL Distribution Center. As the Operations Manager the primary focus will be to ensure productivity, efficiency and maximize the sites profitability. This responsibility includes a strategic approach to business planning, directing daily activities, labor planning, operational efficiency, employee management and ensuring the business meets its daily performance goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage and direct warehouse operations and personnel, including: shipping, receiving, order processing, packing, product put-away, returns and IC
  • Lead, train and develop warehouse associates to set up and enable inbound and outbound operations that provide unparalleled customer service
  • Drive site profitability maximizing profit per square foot
  • Monitor and manage claims, error rates and overtime hours
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy in inventory integrity by establishing a cycle count program and product consolidation
  • Ensure warehouse operation is clean, safe, secure and efficient
  • Collect, analyze and present statistical technical data to senior leadership
  • Drive workflow in the DC, including receiving, put away, picking, shipping, and administrative activities to ensure objectives are met in an efficient manner
  • Direct the DC safety program for the assigned shift to ensure the safety of all associates within the work place
  • Lead daily warehouse meetings and interact with line supervisors and the 3PL customer to ensure shift and facility objectives are being met
  • Direct the functions and personnel of a shift or function to achieve desired results per the daily operations plan
  • Assigns, schedules and directs operations of warehouse, including allocation of personnel and assignments of freight for storage; coordinates transfer of freight between warehouses; determines loading, unloading and freight shipment schedules
  • Participate in the annual budget process to assure all expenses are covered and justified
  • Reviews bills of lading for incoming merchandise and customer orders in order to plan work activities
  • Establishes operational procedures for verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of merchandise, and keeping of warehouse inventory
  • Administers routine personnel matters affect direct subordinates, including interviewing applicants, hiring, promoting, disciplining, terminating, etc.; approves time sheets, submits required paperwork, etc
  • Perform within KPI acceptable standards, update KPIs and improve KPIs
  • Assigns workers to specific duties, such as verifying amounts of and storing incoming merchandise and assembling customer orders for delivery
  • Prepares and maintains warehouse budget to profit plan and manages within limits of authority
  • Report and assist maintaining entire building including dock and office area as per established building agreement requirements
  • Maintain records for forklift training, maintenance and daily checklist as per OSHA regulations
  • Partner with Human Resources to handle all employee situations
  • Serves as a site backup practitioner of the SQF program and ensures regulatory compliance within the company’s processes

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position works partially in an office setting and in the warehouse.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in warehouse management
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field
  • Strong business focus and demonstrate an ability to act in partnership with management team
  • Knowledge of basic warehouse procedures
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to identify opportunities to increase accuracy and optimize resources
  • Experienced in motivating associates by using constructive criticism and positive reinforcement
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
  • Able to work in a fast pace environment and maintain composure

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, talk and walk. This position may spend long periods of time sitting while working and concentrating at a computer. The employee may also spend time walking the warehouse floor and interact with warehouse operations.
