Inventory Helper information

What is an inventory helper?

Inventory Helpers are workers who assist in managing and tracking the stock of goods in warehouses, stores, or other facilities. Their main duties include counting items, organizing products, labeling inventory, and helping with receiving and shipping processes. They work closely with inventory managers and warehouse staff to ensure that records are accurate and that items are stored properly. Attention to detail and basic math skills are important for this role. Inventory Helpers play a key part in maintaining smooth and efficient inventory operations.

What are some typical challenges inventory helpers face, and how can they be managed effectively?

Inventory Helpers often encounter challenges such as maintaining accurate stock counts during busy periods, handling heavy or bulky items safely, and adapting quickly to changing inventory systems or technologies. To manage these effectively, it's important to stay organized, communicate clearly with team members, and follow established safety protocols. Regular training and utilizing inventory management tools can also help ensure efficiency and accuracy in daily tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an inventory helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Inventory Helper, you need strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and familiarity with inventory procedures, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience using inventory management software, barcode scanners, and handheld devices is typically required. Reliability, teamwork, and good communication are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure accurate stock tracking, minimize errors, and support efficient warehouse or retail operations.

Job description

Inventory Planner (Omni)

Overview of the Inventory Planner (Omni) role

The Inventory Planner (Omni) is responsible for supporting inventory planning and execution for our Omni services, including Buy Online Pick Up In Store (BOPIS), Buy Online Ship From Store (BOSFS), and Buy Online Ship to Store (BOSTS).

This role partners with Inventory Planning, Merchandising, Distribution, Store Operations, E-commerce, and IT to help maximize sales, optimize inventory turn, support in-stock goals, and deliver a best-in-class customer experience across Omni fulfillment channels.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, curious, and comfortable using data to identify business trends, support recommendations, and help improve inventory outcomes across stores and digital channels.

Responsibilities

  • Support inventory planning for Omni services, including BOPIS, BOSFS, and BOSTS, to help drive sales, improve inventory productivity, and support customer fulfillment goals.

  • Review Corporate Open-To-Buy plans submitted by Inventory teams, along with historical Omni performance, to help build store-level forecasts for BOSFS and BOPIS labor planning.

  • Analyze Omni sales, inventory availability, fulfillment trends, backorder opportunities, cancellation risk, and store performance to identify risks and opportunities.

  • Support BOSFS inventory strategies that help maximize sales, leverage available store inventory, reduce aged or clearance inventory, and mitigate backorder risk.

  • Partner with Store Operations to monitor store fulfillment performance and identify opportunities to improve on-time service, reduce delays, and support customer experience goals.

  • Partner with Inventory Planning, Merchandising, Visual, and Store Operations to review floor set plans, key-item representation, presentation minimums, and safety stock needs to help protect in-store selling and display quantities.

  • Leverage historical data to identify key learnings around product, pricing, seasonality, inventory, and Omni fulfillment behavior, and apply those learnings to future planning decisions.

  • Prepare recurring reporting and analysis to support Omni planning conversations, business reviews, and cross-functional decision-making.

  • Partner with Distribution, Inventory, and IT teams to help troubleshoot Omni inventory, reporting, fulfillment, and process issues.

  • Support standardized processes, documentation, and reporting routines that improve visibility, reduce manual work, and create consistency across Omni inventory planning workflows.

  • Use approved AI tools, automation, reporting tools, or planning systems to support analysis, improve recurring workflows, and identify opportunities to work more efficiently.

  • Operate a computer and communicate via telephone.

  • Transport materials and equipment and lift, move, and carry objects up to 50 pounds on a limited basis.

Criteria

  • Data-driven individual with a curious, analytical, and collaborative mindset.

  • Minimum two years of experience in Inventory Management, Inventory Planning, Allocation, Replenishment, Merchandise Planning, E-commerce Planning, or a related retail function.

  • Omnichannel, e-commerce, store fulfillment, or retail inventory experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to interpret data, identify trends, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.

  • Proficiency in retail math, including sales, inventory, turn, receipts, margin, markdowns, and open-to-buy concepts.

  • Experience supporting forecasts, reporting, inventory analysis, or recurring business review processes.

  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel; experience with planning systems, reporting tools, dashboards, or data visualization tools preferred.

  • Curious and proactive in adopting approved AI tools, automation, and reporting enhancements to improve analysis, reduce manual work, and support better decision-making.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across Inventory, Merchandising, Store Operations, Distribution, E-commerce, and IT.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, manage deadlines, and follow through on multiple tasks.

  • Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities, business needs, and process changes.
