Purchasing Assistant/Material Buyer

Richland, MI (Fully On-Site)

Competitive Pay | 6-Month Contract (Potential for Extension or Direct Hire)

Schedule: 8AM - 5PM (Flexible)

A global manufacturing organization is seeking Purchasing Assistants/Material Buyers to join its team in Richland, MI. This is an excellent opportunity for supply chain and purchasing professionals looking to gain experience with a large, established company that offers strong growth potential. The position is fully onsite and will support increasing business demands during a busy growth period.

Position Overview

The Material Buyer will support day-to-day purchasing activities to ensure a consistent flow of materials from approved suppliers. This role focuses on purchase order execution, supplier communication, order maintenance, and material follow-up to support production and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders based on system demand, requisitions, and planning requirements.
  • Confirm supplier receipt of purchase orders and obtain acknowledgements.
  • Monitor and follow up on open purchase orders, delivery schedules, past-due items, and order status updates.
  • Maintain accurate purchase order information, including dates, quantities, pricing, and delivery details within the ERP system.
  • Expedite materials as needed to support production, inventory, and customer requirements.
  • Communicate supplier updates, material availability, and delivery risks to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with resolving invoice discrepancies involving purchase orders, pricing, quantities, and receipts.
  • Coordinate with receiving, accounts payable, planning, and suppliers to resolve transactional issues.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier communications, and documentation.
  • Support shortage reports, open order reviews, and standard purchasing follow-up activities.
  • Escalate supplier performance concerns, supply constraints, pricing issues, and contractual matters to purchasing leadership as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, materials management, or administrative buying.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and purchase order management preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, supplier communications, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and order maintenance.
  • Ability to work within established processes while identifying and escalating issues when needed.

Pay and Benefits
