Position Summary
A Senior Material Handler is responsible for assisting with the efficient operation of SLR's warehouse, performing a full range of warehousing activities including duties related to shipping, boxing, receiving, inspecting, storing and moving of product, inventory control and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies.
In addition to performing all the functions of an Associate Materials Handler and a Materials Handler, a Senior Material Handler has expert knowledge of most all areas of the warehouse operations and has a big-picture view of the day-to-day workload and scheduling needs of the warehouse team. They are an available resource for in-depth knowledge of CDK product and departmental goals, assisting the Operations Manager as directed in implementing procedures and processes to assure the warehouse meets or exceeds departmental expectations. They occasionally direct the daily team assignment and workloads and take a lead role in training new employees. They also take the lead in coordinating the daily equipment checklists.
Position Responsibilities & Essential functions
  • Shipping/Picking - Determine method of shipment utilizing 3rd party application and knowledge of shipping procedures. Coordinate outgoing shipments, prepares shipping documents, and the placement of materials within docking area. Stock, pick, and transact finished goods inventory according to pick ticket/sales orders.
  • Boxing/kitting - properly verify, transact, assemble, pack, and label product for stock and safe shipment. Assist in maintaining salvage parts, kit stock, and packaging materials in a neat and organized manner. Recycle foams, plastics, pallets, cardboard, and other products used within the facility.
  • Receiving - Transact and receive all product types. Examine incoming shipments for damage or shortages and corresponds with purchasing and/or Inventory Control Specialist to rectify; completes paperwork or forms required for documentation.
  • Assist with the warehouse inventory process as directed by the Inventory Control Specialist. Participate in maintaining inventory accuracy for Columbia SL&R spares inventory. Monitor and facilitate internal product movement and participate with cycle counts if assigned.
  • Maintain warehouse organization and cleanliness. Assist in ensuring the overall security and safety of goods and personnel. Clean and sweep assigned warehouse areas.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage in a safe manner. Complete daily equipment checklists when assigned and communicate any issues to Operations Manager.
  • Function as an effective, cooperative contributor in a team environment; work with Operations Manager to analyze successes and failures and consider alternatives; be persistent in refining job skills.
  • Provide prompt and accurate customer service to internal customers.
  • Can receive training to provide back-up function in the Consumables area when needed.
  • Provide on the job training to lower level employees and resolves problems utilizing knowledge of shipping/receiving/inventory management operations. Work with team members to identify problems, research and analyze situations, and making the appropriate recommendations

Qualifications & Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED. Some college or Associates Degree preferred in related field.
  • 4 years of related job experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions including basic math skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and via email with peers, internal and external clients
  • Strong team interaction and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to perform consistently in high speed, stressful situations
  • Ability to ensure accuracy of work and provide appropriate attention to detail
  • Demonstrable proactive approach, working effectively and with a positive attitude at all times
  • Flexibility and a high level of initiative are needed to adjust to rapid changes in tasks and priorities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • General understanding of a WMS (inventory system/application) - currently using Clarify and Oracle
  • Ability to spend the majority of the day performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, and moving your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
  • Must weigh less than 300 pounds to operate warehouse equipment

Compensation: $29.00 - $31.00/hour
