Job description

Accounting Manager

We are seeking a high-impact Accounting Manager to own and lead aviation fuel inventory accounting while driving data driven insights, system optimization, and process transformation across the finance organization. This role sits at the intersection of accounting, operations, data, and technology. Ideal for someone who is equally comfortable reconciling barrels as they are building models and redesigning workflows.

The Accounting Manager will be accountable for inventory accuracy, gross profit integrity, perpetual inventory management, and ERP effectiveness, while also acting as a catalyst for analytics, automation, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Aviation Fuel Inventory & Gross Profit
  • Own all accounting and financial reporting related to aviation fuel inventory, including perpetual inventory systems, valuation, reserves, and reconciliations.
  • Lead detailed gross profit analysis, variance investigation, and root-cause resolution tied to inventory movement, pricing, timing, and master data.
  • Ensure inventory balances are complete, accurate, and operationally aligned across terminals, locations, and counterparties.
  • Partner closely with operations, supply, and trading teams to align physical inventory activity with financial results.
  • Month-End Close & Financial Integrity
  • Lead inventory-related components of the month-end close, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clean audit trails.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules tied to inventory, COGS, and gross profit.
  • Design and maintain strong internal controls over inventory accounting and master data.
  • Data Science, Analytics & Modeling
  • Develop and enhance analytical models to support inventory forecasting, shrink/loss analysis, margin trends, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage large datasets to identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities, then translate them into actions.
  • Improve reporting architecture to move the organization from static reports to decision-grade analytics.
  • ERP Implementation & Process Improvement
  • Play a lead role in ERP implementations and enhancements, with a strong focus on inventory modules, data governance, and system design.
  • Own inventory-related master data governance, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Identify broken or manual processes and redesign them using automation, better system configuration, or smarter data flows.
  • Act as the bridge between accounting requirements and system capabilities, calling out bad design early instead of fixing it forever.
  • Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Mentor and develop team members, balancing hands-on execution with leadership and coaching.
  • Lead open-ended, cross-functional projects with minimal structure and high expectations.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and intellectual honesty

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with deep exposure to inventory accounting (aviation, energy, commodities, or similar industries strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience with perpetual inventory systems and gross profit analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar), including implementations or major enhancements.
  • Strong analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to work with large, complex datasets.
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfort working with BI tools, data models, or analytics platforms.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, lead change, and improve processes without being told exactly how.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aviation fuel, energy, commodities, or logistics-driven inventory environments.
  • Background in data science, analytics, or financial modeling beyond traditional accounting.
  • Experience in multinational environments and multi-currency accounting.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Prior leadership experience managing or mentoring teams.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary package.
  • 4 weeks of PTO to start + 6 paid holidays.
  • Health Benefits
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 6% match on 401K.
  • A collaborative and innovative work culture.
