Whisk & Batter Bakery is looking for an experienced Custom Cake Decorator who can confidently create everything from basic celebration cakes to highly detailed, intricate custom designed cakes.

This position is not entry-level. We are looking for someone who already has strong decorating skills, understands cake structure, pays close attention to detail, and can bring a customer’s vision to life with consistency, creativity, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

The Custom Cake Decorator will be responsible for preparing, decorating, and finishing custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, showers, corporate events, themed celebrations, and other special occasions.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Creating clean buttercream finishes, sharp edges, smooth sides, borders, textures, and writing.
  • Executing intricate cake designs based on customer inspiration photos and written order details.
  • Working with buttercream, fondant, chocolate decorations, edible images, toppers, piping, florals, and other cake décor.
  • Understanding cake structure, stacking, doweling, support, and safe transport preparation.
  • Matching colors accurately and maintaining a clean, professional finish.
  • Reading and following custom order forms carefully.
  • Managing time effectively to complete cakes by deadline.
  • Communicating with the team about order details, supply needs, and design concerns.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe decorating station.
  • Helping with production needs when necessary, including cupcakes, fillings, icing, and general bakery prep.

Required Experience

Candidates must have proven cake decorating experience and be able to show photos or a portfolio of previous work.

A strong candidate should be able to confidently complete:

  • Basic round, heart, square and sheet cakes.
  • Smooth buttercream cakes.
  • Piped borders, writing, rosettes, florals, and decorative details.
  • Multi-color designs.
  • Character/theme cakes.
  • Tiered cakes.
  • Fondant accents and decorations.
  • Intricate custom cakes with a high level of detail.
  • Cakes that require clean structure, symmetry, and professional presentation.

Qualifications

  • Prior professional cake decorating experience required.
  • Must be able to work independently without needing constant training or supervision.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and organized.
  • Must be able to follow written instructions and customer order details exactly.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced bakery environment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift cake boxes, ingredients, and supplies as needed.

Portfolio Required

Applicants must submit photos of previous cake work. Candidates may also be asked to complete a decorating test to demonstrate skill level before being hired.

Position Type
