Job description

Definition and Purpose

Under the supervision of Coordinator - Recreational Sports, the Intramural Sport Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing specific intramural sports as assigned. The Supervisor is responsible for training, supervising and evaluating a staff of Officials to assist with this task. As a part of the Intramural Sports Staff, the Supervisor will assist in establishing clear program direction, evaluate each sport, and solicit feedback from participants. The Sport Supervisor spends a significant amount of time supervising intramural activities on weekends and at night.

This position is based at the Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Requirements

Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units. Graduate students must carry 4 units.
  • Must have officiating experience, administrative skills and a working knowledge of Intramural Sports programming.
  • Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification required.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.
  • Experience with program participation preferred.
  • Experience with administrational duties and public relations.
  • General knowledge of program services.
  • Experience in leadership or management.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Program specific experience preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and advise student staff and/or participants.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise program participants.
  • Train, supervise, schedule and evaluate sports officials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create a quality clinic packet for training of officials.
  • Prepare all necessary materials and venues for efficient, safe and service oriented intramural contests.
  • Provide leadership and support for Intramural Sport Officials' Training Clinics.
  • Maintain efficient paper documentation (eligibility, sportsmanship, waivers, results, playoff brackets, etc.)
  • Monitor the IM page of the Recreational Sports website on a regular basis.
  • Organize and lead weekly Sports Officials' meetings.
  • Must hold a CA DL with a driving record acceptable to our insurance underwriters.
  • Assist with the quarterly Intramural Sports scheduling process.
  • Complete and submit End-of-the-Season (EOS) report(s).
  • Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
  • Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers.
  • Awareness of and appreciation for individual uniqueness and diversity.
  • Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers.
  • Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all participants.
  • Commitment to student development and leadership.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Act as a program ambassador at all times with extensive program knowledge.
  • Serve as a role model.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. ASI will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current ASI employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Compensation and Hours
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $18.40 per hour
  • Hourly Pay Range: $18.40 per hour - $18.40 per hour

Position may require working late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position requires a minimum of two consecutive terms of work availability.

Must be available in San Luis Obispo to complete required hiring paperwork and attend mandatory Fall Supervisor Training by August 17, 2026.ย
