Workstream Lead – Advance Variant Configuration (AVC) - SAP S/4HANA

Location:- San Diego, CA (Partial remote with 50% travel) expenses paid

Job description:-

This role is critical for migrating and enhancing complex variant configuration capabilities from LO-VC to SAP AVC, while ensuring seamless integration with SAP Solution Quotation processes and broader solution architecture.
Key Technical Skills & Experience Required:
• SAP AVC Modeling Expertise:
o Strong hands-on experience in designing and implementing advanced AVC models using procedures, constraints, Super BOMs (Super Bill of Materials), and variant tables.
o Deep understanding of AVC configuration profiles, object dependencies, and class type management to support highly configurable products.
• LO-VC to AVC Migration:
o Proven track record in migrating from LO-VC to AVC, with specific expertise in transitioning P-Functions to BADIs.
o Experience in model conversion strategies, data migration, and ensuring business continuity during the transition.
• PDR for AVC Model Migration:
o Hands-on experience using PDR (Product Data Replication) to migrate AVC models and related master data between systems.
• SAP-SFDC Integration:
o Experience integrating SAP AVC (and broader SAP S/4HANA) with SAP Solution Quotation, Salesforce (SFDC) and other external boundary systems, including configuration data flow, quote-to-order processes, and real-time or batch synchronization.
• Complex Enhancements & Technical Leadership:
o Ability to analyze, design, and drive implementation of complex AVC-related enhancements and custom developments.
o Strong capability to lead and facilitate cross-functional technical discussions involving stakeholders from Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Pricing, and IT teams.
o Experience in troubleshooting performance issues, optimizing configuration models, and ensuring scalability for high-volume configurable product scenarios.
Additional Expected Competencies as Workstream Lead:
• End-to-end ownership of the AVC workstream, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, cutover, and hypercare support.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Solution Architects, other workstream leads (especially SAP Solution Quotation), and external implementation partners.
• Strong communication skills to translate complex technical AVC concepts into business value for project sponsors and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with SAP best practices, clean core principles, and modern extensibility options (e.g., BAdIs, RAP, etc.) in an S/4HANA environment.
- This is a hands-on technical leadership role that requires a deep SAP AVC/VC background combined with the ability to lead a team through a complex transformation.
- Candidates with prior experience in Life sciences industries with complex configurable products will be preferred.
Additional Required skills:
- Advise client on how AVC would work with Dynamic/Flexible Bundling (Kit) – to support both Product Configuration as well as Variant Pricing
- Advise client on how AVC would work with some of S/4’s newer transactions, such as Solution Quotation (SQ), in S/4 private cloud premium edition, as well as ATO, ETO scenarios
- Advise client on how AVC would work with/impact upstream/downstream transactions, such as AATP, Product Allocation, S&OP, MRP, Segmentation, BRIM, etc.
- Assess post migration configuration touch-up’s, integration retro-fits, testing considerations, implementation risks, data requirements, potential gaps, etc.
- Support design documentation, reviews, sign-off, etc.
