Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a significant impact by supporting students across a variety of educational settings as a contract Sign Language Interpreter. This on-site, full-time, full school year opportunity places you in an itinerant role, working with both special education and general education populations ranging from mild to severe needs. You'll travel between multiple school sites, collaborating closely with teachers, staff, and families to bridge communication and provide essential access for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Key Qualifications:
- Current EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is mandatory
- Proven experience as a sign language interpreter in educational environments
- Proficient in interpreting for both special education and general education settings
- Comfortable adapting to a range of student needs, including mild to severe
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Flexibility to work at various campuses as required by an itinerant schedule
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for students and staff in classroom and school activities
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, peers, and other personnel throughout the school day
- Use discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information about students’ progress and needs
- Stay adaptable and resourceful while transitioning between multiple school locations
- Support academic engagement and inclusion in all aspects of the educational experience
