Job description

Step into a meaningful role supporting students and educational teams as a contract Sign Language Interpreter in the beautiful Aspen, Colorado area. Your expertise will directly empower students who are deaf or hard of hearing, helping to bridge communication gaps and contribute to a greater sense of inclusion within the school setting.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
  • Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school environments preferred
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or equivalent strongly desired
  • Knowledge of educational terminology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and support staff
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate interpretation between spoken English and ASL for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Support students in understanding instructional material and participating in classroom discussions
  • Facilitate communication during parent/teacher conferences, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events as needed
  • Adapt to various learning environments and student abilities
  • Maintain impartiality, interpreting faithfully without personal input
  • Prepare for classes by reviewing lesson materials when possible
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute valuable input regarding accommodations
