Job description

As we launch and grow Omaha's clinical and reference laboratory, this role requires flexibility and a team-first mindset. Prior to assuming regular courier routes, the Courier may assist with supplies and inventory management, as well as other activities that support operations.
We are seeking a friendly, dependable, and customer-service-oriented Courier with a clean driving record to join our team. The ideal candidate is adaptable, professional, and takes pride in representing the laboratory with clients and internal teams alike.
Pay: Starts at $16.00 per hour, with rate negotiable based on experience
Schedule: This is an on-call (as-needed) position with no guaranteed hours

In this role, you will:
  • Coordinate timely and efficient transportation of medical specimens and supplies.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance consistent with company dress and grooming standards and demonstrate a positive, customer-service-oriented attitude when interacting with clients, patients, and coworkers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform maintenance on company vehicles and transport devices.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Document operations and complete necessary reports.
  • Assist with training and communication among couriers and relevant departments.
  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance to ensure continuity of operations and support for our team and patients.

Education & Certification:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:
  • Strong preference for candidates with previous driving/courier experience

Licensing & Driving Requirements:
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license
  • Clean driving record

Skills & Competencies:
  • Navigation, punctuality, and ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to drive in inclement weather

General Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs. Occasional lifting of 30-60 lbs.
  • Ability to enter and exit assigned vehicle. Able to sit in vehicle/drive for up to 4 hours nonstop.
  • Ability to load & unload assigned vehicle, with frequent bending involved.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Regularly handle potentially infectious samples.
  • Ability to drive assigned vehicle in all types of conditions, including built-up areas, freeway, and rural traffic, hours of darkness, and inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens.
  • Occasional-to-regular kneeling, bending, stooping and twisting to perform vehicle inspections and minor operator maintenance, including changing tires.

OHSA Category: This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids and/or tissues. All employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
