What is an internship workflow automation role?

An Internship Workflow Automation role typically involves supporting the automation of business processes within an organization. Interns in this position use tools and software to streamline repetitive tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce manual errors. Responsibilities may include analyzing workflows, designing automation solutions, and collaborating with teams to implement these changes. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in technology, process improvement, and digital transformation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship workflow automation specialist, and why are they important?

To excel in Internship Workflow Automation, you need a foundational understanding of process mapping, data analysis, and basic programming or scripting, often supported by coursework or hands-on experience in business process management. Familiarity with workflow automation platforms like Zapier, Microsoft Power Automate, or UiPath, and sometimes certifications in these tools, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set standout candidates apart. These competencies are crucial for designing efficient automated solutions that streamline operations and support organizational productivity.

What are some common challenges faced by interns working in workflow automation, and how can they overcome them?

Interns in workflow automation often encounter challenges such as understanding complex business processes and learning new automation tools quickly. Adapting to unfamiliar software and integrating automation solutions with existing systems can also be demanding. To overcome these hurdles, interns should actively seek guidance from team members, utilize available documentation, and participate in team meetings to gain a clearer picture of workflow requirements. Regular feedback and hands-on practice with automation platforms greatly enhance skill development and confidence.

Committed to providing a healthier understanding of healthcare, TouchCare makes navigating healthcare more convenient and stress-free for its users.

AI & Automation Specialist

TouchCare is a healthcare concierge service that simplifies health insurance and healthcare navigation. Each member gets a personal assistant who resolves billing issues, coordinates with providers, and saves people time and money.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a hands-on AI & Automation Specialist to help kickstart TouchCare's AI journey. This is a builder role - you'll work directly with our teams (Member Services, Operations, Client Success, Sales, Marketing, Finance) to find repetitive, manual work and turn it into practical AI-powered solutions using tools like ChatGPT/Claude, workflow automation platforms, and simple integrations.

You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable experimenting with AI tools, prompting, and no-code/low-code automation platforms.

What You'll Do
  • Find opportunities: Shadow teams, map current workflows, and spot where AI or automation can save time.
  • Build quick wins: Stand up automations, AI-assisted workflows, and prompt-based tools that solve real problems fast.
  • Support advocates: Help improve case summarization, intake, documentation, and information retrieval for member-facing teams.
  • Document & train: Write simple guides/playbooks so teams can adopt and use new tools confidently.
  • Track results: Measure time saved, adoption, and impact - and report back on what's working.
  • Keep it responsible: Follow data privacy and PHI guidelines when working with any healthcare-related workflow.
Who You Are
  • Curious, resourceful, and excited about AI and automation - you like figuring things out.
  • Comfortable talking to both technical and non-technical people.
  • A self-starter who can go from idea to working prototype without much hand-holding.
  • Organized enough to juggle a few small projects at once.
  • Interested in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries (nice to have, not required).
What You Bring
  • 0-2 years of experience in operations, business analysis, IT, automation, or a related field (internships count).
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and/or no-code automation platforms.
  • Basic understanding of APIs/integrations is a plus, not required.
  • Strong communication skills and a bias toward action.
Why Join Us
  • Ground-floor opportunity to shape how AI gets used across a growing company.
  • Direct mentorship and visibility with leadership.
  • Fast-paced, hands-on role where your work has immediate, visible impact.

Location: Stamford, CT - onsite 5 days/week Reports to: Leadership / Operations Salary Range: $65,000-$85,000 (based on experience)

TouchCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
