ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH

Madison Middle School

Salary: As per BCS Extra-Curricular Salary Schedule 

Position Purpose

The Assistant Volleyball Coach assists the Head Volleyball Coach in planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the Madison Middle School Volleyball program. The Assistant Coach shall support the development of student-athletes by promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, teamwork, character development, and athletic excellence while ensuring compliance with all West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC), Boone County Schools, and school regulations.

Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Volleyball Coach

Qualifications

  1. Holds valid WVSSAC coaching authorization and all required certifications.
  2. Maintains current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications as required.
  3. Meets all Boone County Schools and WVSSAC employment requirements.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, coaching techniques, and middle school athlete development.
  5. Possesses effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  6. Successfully completes all required background checks and training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Support

  1. Assist the Head Coach in organizing and administering the middle school volleyball program.
  2. Assist with planning and conducting practices, conditioning sessions, and skill development activities.
  3. Instruct student-athletes in volleyball fundamentals, techniques, game strategies, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  4. Assist in preparing student-athletes for successful participation at the high school level.
  5. Support the Head Coach in maintaining a positive team culture that emphasizes discipline, respect, responsibility, and character.

Student-Athlete Development

  1. Encourage academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility requirements.
  2. Foster leadership, responsibility, and good citizenship among student-athletes.
  3. Help ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during practices, competitions, and team activities.
  4. Provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes during team functions and travel.

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Assist with maintaining team records, inventories, and required documentation.
  2. Support the Head Coach with scheduling, transportation coordination, and event preparation as needed.
  3. Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department personnel.
  4. Ensure compliance with WVSSAC rules, Boone County Schools policies, and school procedures.

Equipment and Facilities

  1. Assist with maintaining, inventorying, and securing all equipment assigned to the volleyball program.
  2. Report equipment, facility, and safety concerns to the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal.
  3. Promote proper care and stewardship of school property and athletic facilities.

Community and Public Relations

  1. Represent Madison Middle School and Boone County Schools in a professional manner.
  2. Promote positive relationships with parents, community members, officials, and opposing schools.
  3. Support athletic department initiatives, school activities, and volleyball program events.

Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, demonstrating athletic skills, lifting and carrying equipment, traveling with teams, and supervising student-athletes during practices and competitions. The Assistant Coach must be able to safely and effectively assist with all aspects of team operations.

Evaluation

Performance shall be evaluated by the Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Volleyball Coach in accordance with Boone County Schools policies and procedures.

Terms of Employment

Salary shall be established according to the Boone County Schools Supplemental Salary Schedule and approved by the Boone County Board of Education.
