Job Summary:
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for executing high-level electrical engineering tasks to meet client specifications and project scopes. This role includes developing technical drawings, performing power system studies, and creating equipment specifications, while ensuring adherence to company standards and safety protocols. This role will work in accordance with company safety policies and ensure compliance with administrative and technical standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Design and Development
  • Create detailed electrical drawings for utility substations and industrial medium-voltage systems, including:
    • One-line AC and DC elementary drawings.
    • Grounding drawings.
    • Electrical wiring diagrams.
    • Conduit and cable trench designs.
    • Conduit and cable schedules.
  • Develop specifications for electrical power equipment, such as power transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, switches, and cables.

Analysis and Calculations
  • Perform electrical power system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, and arc flash incident energy analyses) using specialized engineering software.
  • Conduct complex engineering calculations related to power systems analysis and design.
  • Develop protective device settings, subject to review by the project manager.

Project Support
  • Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Assist project managers by reviewing the work of project engineers, technicians, designers, drafters, and interns.
  • Seal electrical drawings, specifications, protective device settings, and reports as needed.
  • Assist with electrical equipment testing activities, including relay testing, circuit breaker testing (LV/MV), and transformer testing.

Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.
Attributes/Abilities:
  • Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Comprehensive understanding of three-phase electrical power in high and medium voltage applications.
  • Ability to independently complete projects and complex tasks with high accuracy.
  • Proficiency with engineering software packages such as EasyPower, SKM, Synergee, and Milsoft.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.

Experience and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Engineering Principles and Practice Examination.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must wear appropriate and mandated PPE including arc-flash suit, safety glasses, hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, etc.
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, pull, push, sit, and work in a cramped or confined space.
  • Potential low exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
