Job description

McAdams is a full-service land planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, transportation, and geomatics firm located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida. Position Overview
The McAdams Internship Program gives students the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals across our core service areas including civil engineering, land planning, transportation, landscape architecture, geomatics, environmental/water resources services, and construction administration. Interns gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from early conceptual design through final deliverables, while contributing meaningful work that supports our clients and communities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate on Active Projects Work alongside experienced team members to support real project deliverables and contribute to meaningful outcomes.
  • Engage in Creative Problem-Solving Participate in brainstorming sessions and team meetings, offering ideas and perspectives that help shape project direction.
  • Build Technical Exposure Gain hands-on experience with industry tools, workflows, and best practices used across McAdams'
  • Learn Through Mentorship Shadow mentors and team leaders to understand how projects move from concept to completion, including planning, design, and execution.
Skills + Experience
We welcome students who are eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a multidisciplinary environment. Ideal candidates will have:
  • Enrollment in a Relevant Degree Program Current pursuit of a degree related to civil engineering, geomatics, environmental science, landscape architecture, planning, construction management, or another aligned field.
  • Strong Communication and Organization Ability to clearly share ideas, manage tasks, and support project teams effectively.
  • Collaborative Mindset Comfort working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment across multiple disciplines.

Work Environment + Physical Demands
The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.   • Work will primarily be in an office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Work will be primarily working with fingers by picking, pinching, typing, and grasping often with repetitive motion.
  • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 15 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Evening, weekend and overtime work and travel may be required occasionally.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
