LJB Inc. is a fast-growing national engineering firm specializing in civil and structural engineering and geospatial, safety, health, and environmental services. The firm has a 50+ year history of leveraging new technologies to drive innovation and bring unique and sustainable value to our clients.
We are currently seeking talented, career minded individual(s) to work as Construction Inspector(s) in Central, Southern, Western, and Eastern Maine. This is a summer intern position working on Maine Department of Transportation construction inspection assignments, beginning on or around May 17, 2027, to late August. Work may include providing inspection on roadway paving, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects. This internship is ideal for someone currently in college focused on engineering or engineering technology and looking to gain practical, hands-on experience with inspection and oversight of roadway construction projects
Pay: $18+ an hour
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR INTERN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Inspection duties will include basic construction inspection, measurement and documentation of construction activities, computation of quantities and checking work for compliance with specifications. Work may also include performing basic field testing and communicating the test results to your supervisor as well as collecting quantity tickets on paving projects.
  • Work beyond eight hours per day/40 hours per week is typically required. Time over 40 hours a week is compensated for at time-and-a-half. Night and weekend work may also be required.
  • Travel to the job site will be required. Locations of work will vary depending on the assignment.
  • Ideal applicants will be in college with a focus in engineering or engineering technology with limited knowledge in the principles and practice of engineering and construction. The successful candidate should be a good communicator, have solid writing/math skills and be comfortable interacting with others on the job site, including inspectors and contractors. The successful candidate will be expected to follow directions provided by supervisors and senior staff.

CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR INTERN ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Education:
  • Seeking a college degree (2-year or 4-year) in Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent.

Qualifications:
  • Looking to gain construction inspection experience.
  • Willing to work more than 40 hours per week.
  • Reliable, hardworking and willing to follow directions provided by supervisor.
  • Valid driver's license; safe/reliable transportation
