Come break through with us.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a motivated and curious intern to join Corning’s DevOps team and support the tools, automation, and cloud foundations that help our internal development teams (“builders”) work effectively in AWS. Our team is responsible for enabling a secure, reliable, and well-governed cloud environment. We help builders by providing foundational services such as cloud account setup, automation, documentation, and support for platform workflows. This internship offers hands-on exposure to how a modern enterprise cloud platform is built and operated. The intern will contribute to day-to-day tasks related to automation, AWS platform support, CI/CD workflows, documentation, and scripting under the guidance of experienced engineers. This role is a good fit for a student who is interested in cloud platforms, DevOps practices, infrastructure as code, and using AI tools to improve engineering productivity. This is a learning-focused role. We are not expecting deep prior experience in every area. We are looking for someone with solid technical foundations, strong curiosity, and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team with day-to-day DevOps, platform engineering, and cloud support tasks.
  • Help update and maintain automation workflows using tools such as GitLab CI/CD and Terraform.
  • Support scripting and automation tasks using Python, Shell, or PowerShell, depending on the need.
  • Assist with AWS-related operational activities such as validation checks, configuration reviews, and support tasks under guidance.
  • Help review pipeline runs, automation logs, and job results to identify simple issues and escalate when needed.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including setup guides, support notes, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
  • Support repository organization, configuration updates, and template improvements in Git-based workflows.
  • Assist with routine validation tasks such as checking automation after changes, updating parameters, and verifying expected outcomes.
  • Help with inventory and tracking activities related to configurations, reusable modules, or platform support artifacts.
  • Participate in improving internal engineering processes by identifying repetitive tasks that could be automated or better documented.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers and internal builder teams to support a smooth and secure cloud experience.
  • Explore practical uses of AI tools to support engineering work, such as summarizing logs, improving documentation, generating scripting ideas, or identifying areas for automation.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of software development, cloud, or DevOps concepts.
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, Shell/Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Basic knowledge of Git or version control concepts.
  • Comfort working with technical documentation and following established procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to AWS or another cloud platform through coursework, labs, certifications, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts or tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
  • Basic awareness of Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command-line basics.
  • Interest in platform engineering, cloud foundations, automation, or developer enablement.
  • Experience using AI tools for learning, scripting help, documentation, or technical problem-solving is a plus.
  • Academic, personal, or internship projects related to cloud, automation, scripting, or system administration are a plus.

Desired Skills

  • Curiosity about cloud and platform engineering
  • Basic scripting and automation
  • Git and version control fundamentals
  • CI/CD awareness
  • Technical documentation
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem-solving
  • Willingness to learn
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Interest in AWS, Terraform, and GitLab workflows
  • Interest in AI-assisted engineering practices
