Job description

SAIC is looking for a Senior Telecom Engineer in Crane, IN.

This position is supporting Expeditionary Electromagnetic Warfare Division at NSWC - Crane Division. The candidate will work closely with engineers, managers, and analysts to accomplish goals in a dynamic and fast paced environment. The ability to communicate clearly across functions and integrate in a team is the key to success. This position may require leadership/mentorship of mid-level and junior engineers and technicians.

You will be tasked to manage telephone port allocations, perform system and network analysis, automated and performance test development, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. You will collaborate with LAN/WAN teams on network configurations, routing, TCP/IP, QoS, tunneling, and security protocols as well as conduct analysis across technologies including 5G, LTE, LTE-Advanced, and proprietary systems. Additionally, you will be asked to provide design recommendations-particularly for RF systems and antennas, including link budget analysis.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • 5+ years' experience in design, implementation and operation of Mobility services such as 2G, 3G-4G-5G network elements, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, LTE and LTE protocols, CDMA, etc.
  • Expert understanding of RF propagation, cellular theory, RF engineering tools, and antenna theory.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the software development life cycle, including coding standards, testing-reviews, source control management, continuous integration, defect management, and build processes.
  • Experience in RF performance analysis and troubleshooting RF issues.
  • Must be proactive and able to develop short and long-term requirements on tools side to meet product requirements.

Education and Experience: 

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following Engineering disciplines:  Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and 9 years or more of experience or a Masters and 7 years of experience.
  • Understand integrity/encryption protocols.
  • Proven record of producing architectural designs and technical leadership.
  • Experience working with large-scale call models, debug complex problems by working with cross-functional teams.
  • Hands on experience with installing and troubleshooting wireless network technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of GSM/UMTS/LTE platforms, product lines and 5GPP specs.
  • Expert knowledge in protocols for interoperability, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting as well as performance monitoring in a virtualized environment.
  • Experience with Python or C+, data analysis, and/or database management.
  • Ability to obtain full secret clearance (interim secret required to start).
