The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.
POSITION SUMMARY/DETAILS:Tampa Electric is wishing to provide an opportunity for college students or recent graduates the opportunity to explore career options within the field of Substation Engineering - System Security. This includes allowing students to apply academic knowledge, skills, gain career skills, build resumes, and network with emergency management professionals.
Accountabilities:
  • Create and/or modify relay protection settings for distribution and/or transmission substations.
  • Provide support for System Protection & Controls Specialists on testing/commissioning of relay settings on related projects.
  • Participate in meetings with internal and external departments/vendors.
  • Attend training related to engineering, safety, and leadership.

Physical Location of Internship: TECO Central Service Area BLDG D
Working Conditions: In-office
Preferred Availability: Part - Time (20-40 hours)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification/GPA:
  • The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university or college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in your university's co-op program is required.

Position Requirements: Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
Preferred/Related Discipline: Electrical Engineering
Year in School: Junior, Senior, or Graduate.
