Trust Automation has over 30 years of experience in custom motors, linear drives, digital drives, and systems which meet the unique needs of its customers. Its product line includes motors, linear drives, digital drives, custom assemblies, and products to fit unique applications and ground-up system design and manufacturing solutions. We design, build and support control and power management systems for the most demanding defense, semiconductor, industrial automation, and medical applications.

Job Summary

Trust Automation's Paid Internship Program is designed to offer opportunities for students to help build their resumes, apply academic knowledge, and network with professionals in their fields of interest while encouraging participants to obtain their educational degree or professional certification.

As a student intern you'll have the opportunity to take part in meaningful work and real-life projects, explore future career possibilities, gain a deeper understanding of your path, and participate in networking activities in the Manufacturing Engineering department. You'll learn from the best minds in the industry and have a unique opportunity to use your knowledge and skills in an innovative environment. You will be introduced to useful tools and resources that will help you grow both professionally and personally during this experience.

The Packaging Engineering Interndesigns, develops, and tests effective packaging solutions that ensure product safety during transport, storage and use. They create prototypes, select materials, manage specifications, and optimize production processes.  

This internship will run from June to August 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design & Development:Create innovative, functional packaging solutions for products, from design to production. 
  • Testing & Validation:Conduct rigorous testing (shock, vibration, drop tests) to ensure package integrity and product safety. 
  • Material Selection:Evaluate and select appropriate materials (plastics, paper, metal) based on cost, durability. 
  • Cost Optimization:Develop cost-improvement strategies to reduce expenses while maintaining or enhancing quality. 
  • Process Improvement:Optimize packaging tools, processes and workflows to increase production efficiency. 
  • Compliance & Standards:Ensure packaging meets industry standards, regulations, and quality specifications. 
  • Collaboration:Work with manufacturing, marketing, procurement, and vendors to streamline development and sourcing. 

Position Requirements

  • Education:Major coursework underway for a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • Technical Knowledge:Basic understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and machinery.
  • Design Tools:Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD)
  • Analytical Skills:Ability to use mathematics and engineering principles to determine package dimensions and strength.
  • Problem-Solving:Capability to troubleshoot issues on production lines and improve existing designs.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing and able to perform the job duties as assigned
  • Must successfully pass a background check and all pre-employment requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone or virtually.
  • Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard, calculator or assemble/manufacture intricate items.
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials.
  • Sitting or standing for extended period of time.
  • Physical agility to lift 20 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
