Job description

Erskine Law Group is currently seeking a full-time Insurance Defense Attorney to join our team in Rochester, MI. The ideal candidate will have 1+ years of experience in handling insurance defense matters and will be responsible for managing cases from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking depositions, and appearing in court. We are looking for an experienced and motivated attorney who is eager to contribute to a collaborative team and deliver high-quality legal representation to our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in all phases of insurance defense litigation, including pre-trial, trial, and post- trial.
  • Help oversee paralegals, legal assistants, and others, as assigned.
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, discovery, and correspondence. Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, experts, and other key individuals. Attend court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as necessary.
  • Evaluate claims, develop litigation strategies, and provide sound legal advice to clients and insurance carriers.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and team members. Maintain accurate time records and ensure timely billing.
  • Manage case deadlines, litigation calendars, and compliance with court requirements.
  • Work closely with support staff and other attorneys to ensure efficient and effective case management.

Job Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active and in good standing with the Michigan Bar Association.
  • 1 years of experience in insurance defense or general civil litigation preferred; however, entry- level candidates with strong internships, clerkships, or practical experience will also be considered.
  • Solid understanding of Michigan court rules and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, and the court.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities to assess complex legal issues and develop effective case strategies.
  • Detail-oriented with a high standard for accuracy and completeness in legal documentation and case preparation.
  • Skilled negotiator, able to advocate effectively and work toward favorable settlements.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to managing workload and case files.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, ethics, and integrity, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a legal team.
