Job description

Internship - Environmental Campaigns Web and Digital Content
Department: Creative
Employment Type: Internship
Location: Multiple Locations
Description
Do you want to use your creative talent and communication skills to make an impact on the issues you care about? The Creative Team for The Public Interest Network is looking for talented candidates to join our team as web and digital content interns. To build the people power it takes to overcome powerful special interests and fix the urgent problems we're facing as a society, from global warming to plastic pollution, we need to reach the public. And to do that, we need to tell our story in ways that connect with people - intellectually, emotionally, politically - and motivate them to join the fight for a better world.
Key Responsibilities
Our interns work side by side with our team of editors, writers and designers to figure out where the public is at on an issue, then craft a message that will grab our audience's attention and incite them to act. You'll learn how to express that message primarily through email, web articles and social media.
  • Write articles and updates for our websites on our priority issues and topics to help build our online following
  • Write, edit and proofread emails that reach thousands of our supporters to inspire them to take action on our campaigns and contribute donations to our program work
  • Promote that content via social media
  • Learn the best practices for writing for advocacy, fundraising and search engine optimization (SEO)

If you're thinking you might want to make a career out of using your communication and writing skills to help save the planet, protect consumers and stand up for the public interest, interning with the Creative Team for The Public Interest Network is one of the best ways to get started. Not only will you get the training and experience you need, but you could also be considered for a position on our team once you graduate.
Qualifications
  • You want to make the world a better place. You have experience volunteering or working for an issue or cause you feel passionate about.
  • You can write. You have experience writing for publication - at the campus newspaper, writing newsletters and emails for a group you volunteer with, or similar relevant experience.
  • You're creative. You're able to anticipate or define a problem, brainstorm solutions, propose or decide on a course of action, and follow through. You can think on your feet and respond to unexpected challenges with confidence.
  • You're smart. You can get your head around complex issues, write clearly and persuasively, and manage multiple projects.
  • You're accountable. You respect goals and deadlines.

Bonus skills
Not required, but if you have experience with graphic design and layout, photography, video editing, HTML or CSS, or other unique creative skills, we would love to know that.
