Job description

Position Summary:

Prestige Trucking Insurance is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal systems and tools that power daily business operations. This role is designed for an early‑career engineer who is eager to learn, build real systems, and grow their technical skills within a production environment. The Junior Software Engineer will work closely with senior engineers and business stakeholders to support backend services, frontend interfaces, automation tools, and internal platforms. This is a hands‑on role focused on building practical experience, learning engineering best practices, and contributing to systems that support real insurance workflows. The ideal candidate is curious, detail‑oriented, and motivated to develop strong engineering fundamentals while learning how technology supports complex business operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support development of backend services, APIs, and internal tools under guidance from senior engineers
 • Assist in building and maintaining frontend components and user interfaces
 • Write clean, readable, and maintainable code following established standards
 • Support basic automation scripts and small workflow improvements
 • Assist with debugging, testing, and resolving technical issues
 • Contribute to system documentation and technical notes
 • Participate in code reviews and learn from feedback
 • Work with databases to read, write, and validate application data
 • Support data accuracy and integrity within systems
 • Learn and follow best practices for security, reliability, and performance
 • Collaborate with team members across engineering, operations, and business teams
 • Participate in testing activities including unit and basic integration testing
 • Support deployments, environment updates, and system maintenance tasks
 • Continuously develop technical skills through hands‑on work and mentorship

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Foundational Programming Skills – Working knowledge of at least one backend or full‑stack language such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Problem‑Solving Ability – Ability to analyze issues, ask good questions, and contribute to solutions under guidance.
  • Backend & API Fundamentals – Understanding of basic backend concepts including APIs, data flow, and service interactions.
  • Frontend Fundamentals – Basic familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React or similar technologies.
  • Database Basics – Understanding of relational databases and basic querying concepts.
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to follow requirements carefully, test work, and ensure accuracy.
  • Learning Mindset – Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and workflows quickly.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
 • At least 2 years of professional or internship experience in software development
 • Basic programming experience in Python, JavaScript, or a similar language
 • Familiarity with basic web development concepts (HTML, CSS, APIs)
 • Exposure to version control systems such as Git
 • Strong willingness to learn and grow in a production engineering environment
 • Ability to work on‑site in Tamarac, FL

Preferred

• Internship or project experience building backend or full‑stack applications
 • Familiarity with React, Node.js, or Python frameworks
 • Exposure to databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
 • Understanding of basic software testing concepts
 • Interest in automation, systems, or internal tooling
 • Exposure to cloud services (AWS, GCP, or similar)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Office‑based position with standard business hours
 • On‑site collaboration with engineering and operations teams
 • Frequent use of computer systems for development and testing
