Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Appropriate Administrator, the Assistant AD, Equipment Operations is responsible for the strategic oversight of the athletic department's equipment and apparel program, including vendor relations, apparel sourcing, inventory management, budget oversight, licensing compliance, and equipment operations for all 19 varsity sports. Serves as the primary liaison with the department's apparel provider to maximize contract benefits while ensuring exceptional service to coaches and student-athletes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Purchasing & Budget Administration - Oversee a $1,000,000 budget, with authority to halt or reallocate spending to remain within budget resources. Develop and administer equipment and apparel budgets in collaboration with sport programs and athletic administration.
  • Inventory Systems, Compliance, and Vendor Administration - Design and maintain the department's comprehensive computerized inventory management system and internal control procedures for all athletic equipment, apparel, uniforms, and supplies safeguarding and loss prevention. Analyze inventory trends and lifecycle data to reduce duplication, recommend replacement schedules, and improve purchasing efficiency.
  • Physical Inventory & Equipment Handling - Oversee equipment operations such as the issuing, fitting, tracking, retrieving, and maintaining of athletic apparel, uniforms, footwear, equipment, and supplies for all intercollegiate athletic programs. Oversee daily equipment room operations to ensure timely distribution and collection of equipment for practices, competitions, and special events.
  • Uniform & Laundry Services - Oversee apparel and uniform services, coordinating the distribution, maintenance, and replacement of practice gear, towels, and competition uniforms. Evaluate the condition, utilization, and replacement needs of uniforms and apparel, coordinating repairs and procurement to support program operations.
  • Staff Supervision & Training - Recruit, recommend hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student assistants, interns, work-study employees, and team managers. Develop standard operating procedures for equipment room operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and secure equipment rooms, laundry facilities, and storage areas.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,908 (Step 1) - $7,150 (Step 20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to take initiative while effectively planning, organizing, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. They possess strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Successful candidates build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and alumni, contributing to a supportive and service-oriented environment. They are proficient in inventory database management, familiar with inventory management systems and software, and capable of producing frequent and accurate reports. Additionally, they have strong desktop computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience supervising the equipment and supply services in a college athletic program required.

Equivalent to three years of experience preferred.


Licenses / Certificates

Possession of or ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certificate required.

Driver license required.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
