Job description

Angell West is seeking a full time or part time Staff Cardiologist Veterinarian - for our busy and growing hospital located in Waltham, MA.
We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. Waltham, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston, is ideally situated within easy reach of Metrowest communities and those north and south of Boston, with high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.
Our Facility and Resources:
Our hospital is over 17,000 square feet. Cardiology equipment includes a Philips Affiniti echo unit, Dextronix electronic VET-ECG system, in-house telemetric monitoring, ambulatory ECG systems (holter and event monitoring), petMAP and Doppler blood pressure systems, and a portable GE Vivid i echo unit. The hospital is well equipped with 3 surgical suites, ultrasound, a CT scanner, endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, digital otoscopy, digital radiography, a shockwave unit, and therapeutic laser. Our CCU is equipped with cages for continuous oxygen supply, and we maintain an on-site blood bank. Labwork and samples are sent twice daily to the fully equipped Angell-Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists. Angell West is also equipped with an in-house laboratory, including a NOVA, Procyte CBC, Abaxis chemistry machine, and Abaxis coagulation machine. Full abdominal ultrasounds are available 6 days a week, and radiographs are reviewed 6 days a week by the boarded radiologists on site at Angell Boston.
Angell Boston has a fully equipped cardiac catheterization lab including c-arm fluoroscopy with power injection for angiography. The cardiology service at Angell West has the opportunity to take cases to Boston for cardiac catheterization and pacemaker implantation (with the assistance of the Boston team).
Our People:
Our collegial hospital staff includes emergency/critical care, urgent care, internal medicine, surgery, avian/exotics, dermatology, physical rehabilitation, and behavior departments. We have a robust internship program, with 5 rotating interns and 2 specialty interns. We have a highly trained technician support team, including a VTS cardiology (one of less than 30 in the world). Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job.
What Makes Us Unique:
This position provides a unique opportunity to join a well-known and respected practice at a non-corporate, non-profit, referral hospital. Our veterinarians are able to practice in an intimate client-focused setting, but with numerous amenities from the larger Angell Boston hospital as support. This would be an ideal position for an individual who is seeking a smaller hospital-based setting with a busy clinical cardiology practice. The caseload will be generated through appointments, in-house referral, the emergency service, and referrals from our community practices. In the past, our cardiology service operated at capacity, with a significant wait time for appointments, since opening. We expect that a new cardiologist joining our practice will quickly build a caseload.
Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. Our six core values are Collaboration, Compassion, Excellence, Integrity, Positivity, and Service. Continual improvement is part of our culture. We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a collaborative client-focused setting.
Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, topic based rounds, and didactic learning (at both Angell West in Waltham and at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston).
Our Benefits:
We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule. Our staffing, schedule, and benefits allow for considerable time away from work, providing an ideal life-work balance.
  • Sign-on bonus, and relocation allowance where applicable
  • Generous base salary plus additional production bonus
  • Paid professional memberships, licensure, PLIT, VIN and DEA license
  • Annual CE allowance and professional development time
  • Generous Paid Time Off, including paid holiday time
  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance
  • Dental, life and disability insurance
  • 403B with employer match
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Social Worker on staff to make sure our doctors and technicians can maintain a good work-life balance (while still enjoying the excitement of veterinary medicine!).
  • As part of the renowned MSPCA, Angell West is a not-for profit (reduction in your student loans is a possibility) animal hospital.

Requirements:
We are seeking applicants that are veterinarians (DVM or equivalent) and have completed a rotating internship. We encourage applicants that have recently finished a rotating internship to apply, as we can provide mentorship, support, and ongoing growth and learning opportunities.
Candidates must demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking and working successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to the veterinary and technical staff as well as clients and referring veterinarians.
Equal Opportunity Employer
