Job description

About Helion
We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.
Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.
This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths - values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.
What You Will Be Doing:
You will drive the design and development of cutting-edge semiconductors for high-performance pulsed power systems used in Helion's fusion generators. You will work in a fast-paced environment to develop, test, and implement high-reliability, high-efficiency switching components, with a strong emphasis on rapid development cycles. You will report directly to our Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering, and this is an onsite role located at our Everett, WA office.
You Will:
  • Spearhead efforts to gather and utilize requirements for switching components and apply them toward design of physical products
  • Drive the design and development of novel pulsed power electronics components and systems, focusing on high-efficiency, high-reliability semiconductor solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of electrical, mechanical, and physics-based principles in semiconductor development
  • Lead development cycles, including hands-on prototyping, small-scale testing, and large-scale performance validation
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to validate designs and iterate quickly using data-backed decision making
  • Stay informed on emerging semiconductor materials, device architectures, and industry trends
  • Document design processes, specifications, test results, and findings for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in power electronics and high voltage semiconductor design
  • Strong foundation in semiconductor physics, power electronics, and circuit design principles
  • Proven experience with rapid prototyping and development cycles in a high-tech environment
  • Background working with semiconductor fabricators to manufacture semiconductor devices
  • Proficiency with simulation tools and test equipment for power electronics
