Job description

Optical Assistant / Insurance Billing & Eyewear Sales – Part-Time

Inversa Rx Optical | Bronx, NY | $22–$26/hour

Inversa Rx Optical is a new optical practice located inside Inversa Rx Pharmacy in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx. We are seeking an experienced, friendly, and organized Optical Assistant to support our ophthalmologist and help manage the day-to-day operation of our optical department.

This position combines patient service, insurance billing, front-desk support, and eyewear sales. The ideal candidate has previous experience in an optometry, ophthalmology, or optical practice and is comfortable working with vision and medical insurance.

Responsibilities
  • Greet, register, and check in patients 
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient communications 
  • Verify vision and medical insurance eligibility and benefits 
  • Determine copays, deductibles, and patient responsibility 
  • Enter patient and insurance information into RevolutionEHR 
  • Prepare and submit insurance claims 
  • Follow up on rejected, denied, and unpaid claims 
  • Post insurance payments and assist with EOBs 
  • Obtain insurance authorizations when required 
  • Assist with billing for frames and lenses through vision plans 
  • Collect copays and patient balances 
  • Help patients select frames based on style, fit, and budget 
  • Process eyewear sales and payments 
  • Enter and track optical laboratory orders 
  • Communicate with optical labs regarding order status 
  • Maintain and merchandise our 200+ frame selection 
  • Provide administrative support to the ophthalmologist 

The ophthalmologist will be responsible for examinations, prescriptions, measurements, fitting/dispensing, and professional clinical services.

Qualifications
  • Previous optometry, ophthalmology, optical, or vision-care office experience strongly preferred 
  • Experience with medical and/or vision insurance billing preferred 
  • Experience verifying insurance benefits and submitting claims 
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding is a plus 
  • RevolutionEHR experience highly preferred, but we will consider candidates experienced with other optical/medical EHR systems 
  • Optical frame sales experience is a plus 
  • Strong computer and organizational skills 
  • Excellent customer-service and communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable following up on insurance claims 
  • Spanish-speaking is a plus 
  • Optician license is not required 
Schedule

Part-Time / Per Diem – approximately 1–2 days per week initially, primarily on days when the ophthalmologist is seeing patients. Opportunity for additional hours as the practice grows.
