Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Pharmacy Technician

LOCATION: Retail Pharmacy

REPORTS: Directly to PIC and/or Lead Pharmacy Technician

COMPANY: NW Staffing LLC || dba Express Rx

SUMMARY

The PHARMACY TECHNICIAN oversees many aspects of the retail pharmacy, with their main roll being prescription processing and patient interaction/communication. Additional duties include, but not limited to prepare pharmacy for business; monitor inventory, which may include stocking and labeling; record-keeping, etc. They must work well in a fast-paced environment and have strong customer service skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for assisting Pharmacists in the safe distribution of medications and the provision of pharmaceutical care.
  • Sterilize surfaces and equipment and prepare the pharmacy for opening
  • Greet customers and answer questions
  • Receive prescriptions and check their validity
  • Enter and process prescriptions into the pharmacy system, where permitted by pharmacy regulations, and only at the direction of the supervising pharmacist after their review of the prescription in accordance with Company policy and federal/state regulations
  • Ensure all information regarding patient and prescription is complete and accurate
  • Resolve issues when they arise, e.g., rejected insurance claims
  • Select the appropriate medicine and measure dosages to fill prescriptions
  • Sort, stock, label medication and monitor inventory
  • Undertake administrative tasks, e.g., recordkeeping, as needed
  • Comply with all security measures and quality standards
  • Other work tasks as assigned by Management
  • NOTE: Pharmacy Technician is prohibited from: 1) Performing the final check of a prescription; and 2) Performing any type of counseling with patients.

    EXPERIENCE or REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Registered with State Board of Pharmacy required
  • Proven focus on patient care required
  • Proven communication and customer service skills required
  • Strong math skills required
  • Outstanding organizational skills required
  • Reliable with a keen eye for detail required
  • Experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail environment preferred
  • Knowledge of medication and dosage measurement preferred
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology preferred
  • Experience with a prescription management system, e.g., Pioneer is a plus
  • National Certification is an asset and rewarded with increased PTO and pay
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and reach outward on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to reach above shoulder height, climb, crawl, squat, kneel and bend.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 50 pounds or less.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 15 pounds frequently and up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision requirements and ability include (but not limited to): oClose reading.
  • Distant recognition. oPeripheral capability.
  • Ability to adjust focus rapidly.
