Senior RF Engineer
Senior RF Engineer
Company Overview
We are located in Orlando, FL (Near UCF), and we are a leading electronics manufacturer and supplier of advanced technologies primarily in the aerospace and military/defense industries. We work with some of the most high-performing and cutting-edge technologies on the market. Our products vary from military aircraft to heart monitors to smartphones, so we can promise the work will never get boring or stale!
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior RF Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of radio frequency components and a strong background in RF design and/or testing. This position is critical in developing innovative RF solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead RF front-end design and optimization including LNAs, PAs, mixers, filters, duplexers and matching networks to meet system-level specifications.
- Develop and execute RF validation and DVT test plans to characterize gain, noise figure, linearity, intermodulation, spurious emissions, broadband noise and other key performance metrics.
- Design RF-capable PCBs and work with layout engineers to implement isolation, shielding, grounding, grounding, controlled impedance routing and best practices to minimize broadband noise and unintended coupling.
- Perform hands-on measurements and troubleshooting using spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers (VNAs), RF signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters and power supplies to validate designs and debug issues in prototype and production hardware.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts and measurement sequences (Python, LabVIEW or similar) to increase test throughput and repeatability during DVT and manufacturing test.
- Analyze and interpret measurement data, create clear technical reports, test reports and issue tracking; provide actionable recommendations to design teams.
- Drive pre-compliance and regulatory support for spurious emissions and EMC testing; interface with test labs and certification bodies as required.
- Collaborate closely with systems, firmware, mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure RF requirements are met through product development and into production.
- Mentor and coach junior RF engineers and test technicians, establishing RF test standards, procedures and training materials.
- Participate in design reviews, provide risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies related to RF performance and manufacturability.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering or related field; 6+ years of professional experience in RF design and testing (or equivalent experience) to qualify for a Senior level role.
- Proven hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, RF signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters and power supplies in lab and field environments.
- Strong RF design experience including PCB layout practices for RF, isolation techniques, shielding, filtering and controlled impedance design.
- Demonstrated ability to measure and mitigate broadband noise, spurious emissions and intermodulation products; experience developing DVT test plans and executing formal verification campaigns.
- Experience with RF simulation and CAD tools (e.g., ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, CST or equivalent) and circuit simulation for matching networks and stability analysis.
- Experience developing automated measurement/test scripts using Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools, and familiarity with data analysis workflows.
- Practical knowledge of power amplifier design, LNA design, mixers, duplexers, baluns and passive component selection for RF applications.
- Familiarity with regulatory EMC/EMI requirements and certification processes preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, clear technical communication, and experience working in cross-functional teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation skills and a results-oriented mindset to drive deliverables through prototype, DVT and production phases.
