About the Role: 

As a Research Intern - Volumetric Representation at Dolby, you will have the opportunity to work on the cutting-edge and impactful topics in the field. With the guidance of Dolby's leading media technology experts, you will address industry-relevant, real-world volumetric representation problems aimed at creating advanced consumer experience in multimedia entertainment. 

This opportunity will be based at our research offices in Atlanta, Georgia. 

What are we looking for in candidates? 

We are seeking current PhD students with backgrounds and experiences in volumetric representation, specifically in Gaussian Splatting. To be eligible, you should have completed at least one year of your doctoral program. Along with solid technical skills, candidates should demonstrate problem-solving and analytical abilities, good communication and collaboration skills, a curiosity for how and why things work as they do, and a passion for volumetric video, or 3D/4D reconstruction and interaction technology. You have a desire to bring in new ideas and are open to learning from others. 

Summary of Position: 

We are a key research team within Dolby's Advanced Technology Group, focused on creating cutting edge imaging, video processing, computer vision, vision language, and multimodal technologies that drive next generation consumer experiences. We are looking for strong candidates with an interest in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Mesh and texture, 3D Gaussian Splatting, or other volumetric representations 

  • Interactive 3D experiences such as relighting or material interaction 

  • Machine-learning driven representations of geometry and material 

  • Physically based and learning-based rendering approaches 

Requirements: 

  • PhD in Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.  

  • Proven ability to conduct research and demonstrate results through projects, prototypes, patent filings, and papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences. 

  • Experience as a researcher, including internships, full-time positions, or at a lab. 

  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Highly Desired Experience in the following: 

  • Creating demos and prototypes for research applications. 

  • Developing innovative solutions for volumetric representations 

  • Writing technical reports and/or publications. 

  • First-author publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals.

Eligibility: 

Currently enrolled in a doctorate program in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Must be available to work full-time Monday - Friday for 12 weeks between September 2026 - December 2026. 

The start date for this internship is as follows (please note these dates are not flexible): 

  • September 21, 2026 

The Atlanta area base hourly range for this internship position is $53/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
