Position Description
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking temporary interns with a minimum of 10 hours/week and a maximum of 35 hours/week. Our internships may offer flexibility in allowing some remote work; however, candidates must be willing to be on-site in Annapolis, Maryland. All work hours must be done Monday - Friday during standard business hours.

Internship Opportunities:
The Enterprise Application Solutions (EAS) division of the Anne Arundel County Office of Information Technology (OIT) is currently seeking a qualified candidate for an onsite internship. The intern will work in a team environment to develop and maintain software using industry-standard best practices. Additionally, the intern will gain experience with the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to testing. OIT EAS supports the County business units by modernizing their departmental processes with custom-developed web-based and mobile software. EAS uses a variety of technologies: Java, React.js, Node.js, GraphQL, React Native
The Help Desk Internship: This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity turn classroom knowledge instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon knowledge gained through their college coursework in order to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship. The intern will learn how to identify and replace the current tech refresh cycle for county PCs and search for lower cost and more effective technology solutions and make recommendations on how to proceed.
Administrative Internship: This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon the knowledge gained through their college coursework in order to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship. Allows intern the opportunity to get hands on experience working in an Information Technology environment. Allows intern to get administrative/clerical experience.
Cyber Security Internship: This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon the knowledge gained through their college coursework in order to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship. The intern will work directly with the Anne Arundel County cybersecurity officer and assist in the development of security policies and procedures, conducting security controls assessments, validating system configurations, identifying security weaknesses, performing vulnerability scans, and reporting findings to management for prioritization and remediation. The intern will assist and learn about risk management, vulnerability assessments, and incident response, and gain hands-on experience with technologies used at most organizations.
Project Management:
This position is within the OIT division of Project Management and Planning assisting project managers with all aspects of projects from initiation to implementation. The incumbent will:
  • Build workflows, process models, and business cases based on interviews with customers
  • Translate business needs into a plan to implement technology
  • Monitor schedules and collect status reports
  • Develop a practical understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Part-time or full-time enrollment in an accredited college or university, majoring in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Competency in using office productivity applications; preference is given towards Google applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational and multitasking skills

Telecommunications. This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon the knowledge gained through their college coursework in order to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship.
Main Purpose of the Telecommunications Internship:
  • Learn about and assist in the performance of the support functions for the Telecommunications process to include customer service and data management.
  • Learn about and assist with the deployment of the new VOIP phone system.
  • Learn about and assist with answering phones and assisting customers.
  • Learn about and assist in providing research and data entry.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or related field, with an interest or familiarity with the technologies mentioned in the specific program.
All applicants/students must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0+.
