Job description

Compliance Analyst

100% Remote in United States

Description:

The Trade Compliance Analyst - Export Classification plays a critical role in supporting Our International Shipping by reviewing, analyzing,

and validating U.S. export control classifications for products listed on our website. In this role, you will apply the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the Commerce Control List (CCL) to determine the appropriate Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) or EAR99 designation for a wide range of products. You will conduct research, evaluate technical and commercial product information, document classification decisions, and escalate complex cases when additional expertise is required. This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical professional with a foundation in U.S. export controls who is looking to deepen their expertise in product classification within a global ecommerce and logistics environment.

  • Review and validate export control classifications for products supported by International Shipping.
  • Research and interpret the EAR and CCL to determine appropriate ECCN classifications and EAR99 designations.
  • Analyze product descriptions, technical specifications, manufacturer documentation, images, and other available information to support classification decisions.
  • Identify products that may be subject to export control restrictions and distinguish them from items appropriately classified as EAR99.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and auditable documentation of classification determinations, supporting research, and decision rationale.
  • Escalate complex, ambiguous, or technically sensitive classifications for additional review when appropriate.
  • Support ongoing quality assurance efforts, audits, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Operations Compliance and cross-functional stakeholders to address classification questions and strengthen export compliance controls.
  • Contribute to the scalability and effectiveness of EIS's global trade compliance program.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of U.S. export controls, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and/or International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Working knowledge of the Commerce Control List (CCL) and ECCN classification structure.
  • Understanding of EAR99 classifications and their application within export compliance programs.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to make well-supported compliance decisions based on available information.
  • Excellent written communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage recurring workloads while maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in trade compliance, export controls, product classification, customs, logistics compliance, supply chain, or a related field.
  • Relevant internship, military, or early-career experience in international trade or regulatory compliance.
  • Direct experience performing ECCN classifications, CCL research, and EAR99 determinations.
  • Ability to interpret technical product specifications and manufacturer documentation.
  • Familiarity with HS/HTS classification and the distinction between tariff classification and export control classification.
  • Experience working within ecommerce, logistics, marketplaces, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or other international trade environments.
