About the Role/Team
We're looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering team. In this role, you'll help keep the systems that frontline workers depend on running smoothly, reliably, and at scale. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to build and maintain the infrastructure behind Relay's cloud platform - ensuring our customers can count on us when it matters most.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who's excited about infrastructure, automation, and solving real problems for real people.
What You'll Do
  • Monitor and improve the health, performance, and availability of Relay's production systems using tools like Grafana and PagerDuty.
  • Build and maintain observability tooling that gives engineering teams clear insight into how our systems are behaving.
  • Write automation in Python and Elixir to reduce toil and improve reliability across our infrastructure.
  • Manage and evolve infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Ansible, and Packer on AWS.
  • Support and improve CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins to help the team ship safely and often.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, responding to incidents and helping drive them to resolution.
  • Coordinate the flow of information across Engineering during incidents, ensuring the right people have the right context at the right time.
  • Contribute to post-incident reviews and help turn lessons learned into lasting improvements.
What You'll Have
  • A B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience managing reliable services and systems - whether through internships, personal projects, or prior roles.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments and comfort working in the terminal.
  • A genuine curiosity about how systems work (and how they break).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with capacity planning and resource forecasting.
  • Exposure to production systems where low latency is a high priority.
  • Familiarity with any of our core tools: AWS, Terraform, Ansible, Grafana, PagerDuty, Jenkins, or Packer.
