Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Lead Unix / Linux Administrator to support a company focused on delivering secure, mission - critical IT services for federal government environments. This position is hybrid on-site in Washington, DC , with on-site support required at least two days per week. The Lead Unix / Linux Administrator will provide senior-level administration, automation, and operational support across enterprise Linux environments, ensuring system stability, security, and performance. This role directly supports high-impact federal missions where reliability, security, and technical excellence are essential. Responsibilities for the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator include: * Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux systems in enterprise environments * Leading third-party application installation, automation efforts, and technical project delivery * Monitoring system performance, backups, patching, and compliance with CIS security baselines * Troubleshooting complex hardware, software, and networking issues across production systems * Collaborating with cross-functional operations teams and documenting system configurations and procedures Required Qualifications for the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator include: * 6+ years of experience administering Unix/Linux systems in enterprise or government environments * Strong expertise with RHEL, Oracle Linux, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN)
* Advanced skills in shell scripting (Bash, Python), automation, troubleshooting, and version control (Git)
* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience * Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
* Must meet DoD IAT Level II requirements (Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP) Compensation for the Lead Unix / Linux Administrator include: * Salary Range: $110,000 - $115,000 depending on experience * Full Benefits Package: PTO, Paid Holidays, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Tuition Reimbursement, and Sick Leave as required by law.
