Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Operator is responsible for the programming and basic maintenance of the CMM equipment, including ordering of CMM accessories, making work instructions and perform operator/user training.
The CMM Technician will also be a part of the Quality Control group performing visual and dimensional inspection on machined products to ensure compliance with customer requirements and print specifications.
The CMM Technician may also be called upon for calibration support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operate CMM machines in liaison with Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Conduct CMM verifications through Gage R&R studies.
  • Write up Work Instructions pertaining to Product CMM program initial launch and ongoing inspection controls.
  • Train and assist manufacturing and quality personnel on the operational use of the CMM.
  • Perform basic maintenance and ordering of necessary accessories to ensure proper CMM usage.
  • Provide, if required, Calibration support in measuring complex gauge and/or controlling fixtures.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one year of related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience and preferably in a high precision machine shop and using PC-DMIS CMM software.
  • Two years' experience in a position involving inspecting parts to drawing, including interpretation of geometric tolerance.
  • Experienced in advanced blueprint reading.
  • Good working knowledge of GD&T principles and techniques. GD&T Certification is desirable.
  • Familiar with lathe and mill machining processes.

Language/Communication Skills:
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills to facilitate training and group problem solving.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, RDA regulations, operating instructions, work instructions, customer supplies procedures.
  • Ability to write documentation that conforms to prescribed style and format.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematics and trigonometry skills as well as some understanding of statistics (Gage R&R).

Reasoning Ability:
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • ASQ CMI or CQT certification preferable.
