Job description

Job Title: PLM Application Developer

Job Description

The PLM Application Developer will support a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system as part of a development, deployment, and sustainment team focused on product lifecycle management (PLM) engineering solutions. This role provides technical support for configuration management, process development, and requirements traceability, and helps configure, test, deploy, and implement PLM technologies that enable system engineering processes and integrated digital solutions across related business areas.

Responsibilities

  • Apply product lifecycle management and data management principles, theories, concepts, practices, and techniques to support engineering and digital solutions.
  • Implement and execute configuration management processes across the full data lifecycle and provide progress reporting against established plans.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and integrated product teams to provide engineering support in an emerging digital engineering environment.
  • Continuously learn and stay current on emerging trends, techniques, methods, and best practices in PLM and data management within a model-based environment, and actively contribute to innovative solutions.
  • Assist in developing PLM system requirement specifications, including mapping new requirements to existing and planned PLM capabilities.
  • Perform verification and validation activities between legacy and future systems, including regression testing to ensure updated system capabilities are not degraded.
  • Support the migration of data, work processes, and aging systems into a unified PLM architecture using the Windchill PLM tool.
  • Prepare, maintain, and facilitate training materials and sessions for internal and external PLM users.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of developments in PLM technology to ensure cost-effective and efficient application to program objectives, identifying opportunities to expand PLM services for current and future requirements.
  • Engage in problem solving by analyzing requirements, designing solutions, and troubleshooting issues using existing and newly developed software tools.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders through emails and other channels to understand issues, propose solutions, and provide status updates.
  • Work closely with team members who build and configure within Windchill and support related tools such as DOORS and JIRA.
  • Contribute to the technical applications management function that supports stakeholders and drives product lifecycle excellence.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a software-related discipline with some professional work experience, OR an associate’s degree in one of these fields with 2+ years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM) or data management tools.
  • Programming experience, with exposure to C++ or similar languages through coursework or professional experience.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating motivation, drive, and professional conduct.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically and design technical solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with engineering teams and communicating with customers.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and methods quickly and apply them in a model-based, digital engineering environment.
  • Eligibility for and ability to obtain an interim security clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense IT network systems.
  • 2+ years of work experience with PLM, CAD, or DOORS integration and implementation.
  • Intermediate experience with SysML development and implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with PTC Windchill; experience with other PLM platforms such as Siemens or Dassault Enovia is also valued.
  • Experience working with or configuring PLM tools, even on the user-facing side rather than backend development.
  • Experience in engineering or computer science disciplines that support analytical thinking and solution design.
  • Prior internship or professional experience in engineering, software, or data management environments.
  • Curiosity, self-starting attitude, and a strong desire to independently explore and solve technical challenges.

Work Environment

The PLM Application Developer will work in a collaborative technical team environment that supports stakeholders on a major U.S. Navy weapon system program. The team uses product lifecycle management tools such as PTC Windchill and supports related applications including DOORS and JIRA to manage requirements, configuration, and digital engineering workflows. The role is primarily focused on the PLM side of the environment and involves significant problem solving, troubleshooting, and solution design using software tools. Work is performed in a professional office or lab setting with regular interaction with engineers, system owners, and other technical staff. The culture emphasizes growth, continuous learning, and being at the forefront of digital engineering and PLM practices, offering opportunities to expand responsibilities as the program and tools evolve.
