Job description

York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York's complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York's existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We're looking to expand our team across the board.
We are looking for a UI/UX Designer who is passionate about crafting software that pushes the bounds of what's possible. Our software is a modern web-based application that operators use to monitor and control constellations of spacecraft across several active missions.
This is an early-career role for someone eager to grow quickly in a technically demanding environment. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and designers who will support your development through mentorship, peer feedback, and collaborative critique. As you ramp up, you'll take on real feature work - conceiving UI components, reimagining existing workflows, and coordinating closely with developers on implementation. The problems we work on are complex, and you will be supported by your team and leadership to engage with and grow into that complexity over time.
Prior space-industry experience is not required.
Position Details

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate customer and operator requirements into clean, intuitive designs
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes that work within and contribute to an existing design system
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, developers, and mission operators to refine requirements and incorporate feedback
  • Maintain and organize design files and document design decisions
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of UI/UX design experience, including internships and academic or personal projects
  • Proficiency in Figma, including components, auto-layout, and design system workflows
  • Experience creating wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Experience defining user flows and identifying friction points
  • Eagerness to continue to learn and improve
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to proactively seek information and guidance when encountering vague or confusing requirements
  • Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance

Required Portfolio
  • Design portfolio demonstrating UI/UX work from previous projects, internships, or academic work

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing dark mode exclusive applications
  • Experience designing for colorblind accessibility
  • Familiarity with frontend development concepts such as component-based architecture or responsive layout
