About the Organization
TechTown is Wayne State University's entrepreneurship hub. We empower Detroit-based startups and local businesses by providing resources, a collaborative workspace, and entrepreneurship education to further accelerate inclusive economic development across Detroit.
About the Opportunity
TechTown Detroit's internship program is a 15-week cohort that provides each student with real-life, hands-on experience, coaching and mentoring, and the opportunity to meet people in roles across the organization and our partners. The Intern must bring a positive attitude, a "can-do" spirit, and high energy, alongside attention to detail.
The Impact You Will Make:
We are hiring interns for the following departments:
Ops+:
Ops+ offers back office services (HR, payroll, benefits, and finance) for startups, nonprofits, and growing teams.
  • Looking for someone who has exposure and interest in either accounting or HR.
  • Help with developing communications, building SOPs, and gaining experience with entry-level HR and finance work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MarCom:
Our MarCom (short for Marketing and Communications) team works on all things brand, content, and creative design for all TechTown departments.
  • Capture additional content (for social), help edit and update website content, assist in building assets in Canva, and help organize Flickr.
  • Work on any company-wide ad-hoc projects that come up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BSE:
Our Business Services and Engagement team provides resources for small businesses and tech startups through activations such as First Thursdays, Ask an Expert, and the Small Business Support Hub.
  • Assist with day-of events such as First Thursdays, company-wide training sessions, resource tabling events, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be organized, possess the ability to handle multiple tasks, and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven and community-oriented.
  • Must actively work on daily assignments and by the end of the internship have completed and prepared to present your internship project.

Requirements
What You Will Bring to the Table:
  • Must be a current Wayne State University student enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
  • A detail-oriented and flexible attitude
  • High energy while maintaining professionalism and the ability to handle a multitude of tasks supporting clerical, administrative, and project management functions.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and communication background.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • The ability to commit to up to a 15-week internship during either the Fall, Winter, or Summer semesters.

Salary:
Interns are part-time at $20 per hour.
Work Arrangements:
TechTown Detroit team members work 3 days in the office and 3 days out in the field, supporting clients. The Intern's work location will depend on the needs of the department they are interning with and will work around class schedules.
