Job description


MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Quality Supervisor supports the technical lab within the Kalamazoo Mill. This position is responsible for the continuous improvement project action item list as well as managing/developing interns.The Quality Supervisor works closely with GPI Sales and CTS (Customer Technical Services) teams and serves as the main liaison between all customers and the mill production team to address customer concerns.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Research and respond to customer claims in a timely manner to prevent aged claims.
  • Participate in customer visits as needed.
  • Provide direction for the internship program/interns.
  • Create and manage trial planning within the mill and maintain records within the trial log.
  • Regularly review and maintainthe FDA approved chemical list and update the document control system.
  • Lead Kepner Tregoe (KT) events as scheduled.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings.
  • Manage job assignments and training plans.
  • Participate in lab activities and reporting.
  • Have frequent interaction with the GPI Sales and Corporate Customer Technical Services.
  • Complete Six Sigma projects and solve problems utilizing lean methodology.
  • Manage Technical Lab activities.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, all employees are expected to work alternate schedules occasionally in order to meet business needs; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.


Required Skills

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU NEED:

  • Experience within a test lab environment.
  • A Safety-First mindset to promote and support a safe workplace.
  • To travel as needed to customers.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • To participate in On-call/weekend duty rotation.
  • KT Training participation/lead a plus.
  • Knowledge of printing press runnability.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results by developing your team.
  • The ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost control and employee relations.
  • To have quality orientation and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • To be able to function both as a team member as well as an individual contributor.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt training is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree within the Engineering field of study - paper, chemical or printing preferred or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
