Job description

USPI Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Pinecroft is seeking a motivated RN PreOp to join our team. We have 6 OR rooms and 2 treatment rooms. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in General, GI, ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Pain, Plastic, Podiatry, Spine, Urology. Position requires weekdays only -- no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule subject to change based on surgical schedule and flow of the day. 

Job Summary: The PreOp RN is a Registered Nurse that provides quality patient care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. The RN provides safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the perioperative services for all patient populations. The RN supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The RN reports to the Manager of Peri-operative Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive and efficient care to patients in the pre-operative phase
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-op assessments, including patient history, medications, and allergies
  • Initiate IVs, administer medications, and ensure accurate pre-op documentation
  • Reinforce pre-operative instructions and provide emotional support to patients and families
  • Communicate effectively with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and fellow RNs to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, medication safety, and patient safety standards
  • Ensure all necessary pre-op documentation and consents are completed before surgery
  • Monitor and respond to any changes in patient condition prior to surgery

Required Skills

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Must have at least 1-3 years' previous experience in PreOP/PACU
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
  • Must have current BLS, ALS and PALS
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
