Fully Onsite | Temp Role | Framingham, MA | Weekend Rotation Required

Pay: 35-45/hr


Position Summary

The Research Associate will support upstream cell culture process development within a global Cell Culture Platform group focused on fed-batch and perfusion technologies. This role involves hands-on laboratory work in mammalian cell culture systems, contributing to early and late-stage biologics development and upstream CMC process optimization.

The position operates in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment and offers exposure to cutting-edge bioprocessing technologies, including bioreactor systems and platform process development.


Key ResponsibilitiesUpstream Cell Culture & Process Development
  • Plan and execute experiments to optimize upstream cell culture processes across multiple scales (shake flasks, AMBR systems, 3L/10L bioreactors)

  • Perform mammalian cell culture experiments using aseptic techniques

  • Support fed-batch and perfusion-based bioreactor operations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support Phase I and early-stage pipeline programs


Data, Documentation & Reporting
  • Prepare technical reports, experimental protocols, and scientific summaries

  • Document all experimental activities in compliance with internal standards

  • Support presentation of data for internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of experimental records


Technology Transfer & Process Support
  • Support technology transfer activities into manufacturing facilities

  • Assist in scaling processes across different development platforms

  • Contribute to upstream CMC development strategies and platform improvements


Laboratory Operations & Compliance
  • Maintain safety and environmental compliance in all laboratory activities

  • Follow SOPs and established protocols for cell culture and bioprocessing

  • Ensure proper handling of equipment and bioreactor systems

  • Participate in laboratory organization and maintenance activities


Collaboration & Teamwork
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary scientific teams

  • Communicate experimental progress and findings effectively

  • Contribute to a fast-paced, team-oriented research environment

  • Demonstrate flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to learn new techniques


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field

  • Up to 3+ years of experience (including internships/co-ops acceptable)

  • Strong understanding of mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques

  • Hands-on laboratory operations experience

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based research environment

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fed-batch and/or perfusion bioreactor systems

  • Familiarity with cell culture platforms at multiple scales

  • Knowledge of CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls) principles

  • Prior exposure to upstream biologics process development

  • Strong academic performance (GPA preferred)
