Job description

Job Title: Project Engineer Company: Gonzalez Asphalt, Inc. Location: Phoenix, Arizona Reports To: Project Manager / Vice President

Job Summary:

Gonzalez Asphalt is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of public works and civil construction projects across the Phoenix metro area. This position plays a key role in helping our teams deliver high-quality asphalt paving, grading, concrete, and underground work safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

· Project Coordination: Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project oversight including tracking schedules, budgets, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

· Document Management: Maintain project documentation through client platforms (e.g., PM4+, ACC Build), including submittals, daily reports, safety logs, and as-builts.

· Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination: Support procurement of materials and coordination with subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and compliance with project specs.

· Quantity Tracking & Reporting: Track and verify quantities of materials placed (asphalt tonnage, square footage, etc.) for billing, progress reports, and change orders.

· Client Communication: Assist in preparing progress updates, meeting minutes, and correspondence with municipalities, inspectors, and general contractors.

· Compliance: Ensure compliance with project specifications, municipal requirements, ADA standards, and Gonzalez Companies’ safety and quality protocols.

· Field Support: Visit job sites regularly to support field teams, monitor progress, and help resolve issues in real time.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

· 1–3 years of experience in civil or heavy construction preferred (internships or co-ops considered)

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and project management tools (Smartsheet, Procore, etc.)

· Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed
