Vascular Surgery Progressive Care Unit Opportunity

Great opportunity to join our Vascular Surgery Progressive Care Unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital!

Preferred experience as a CNA, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician

Days: 7 am- 7 pm

Holiday Rotation

Every third weekend

Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Division 7500/75PCU is a fast paced Cardiovascular Surgery division made up of 25 beds with a mix of step down and PCU beds. We care for a variety of complex cardiovascular surgery patients including aortic and abdominal aneurysms, thoracic outlet syndrome, carotid artery disease, aorto-iliac and lower extremity occlusive disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia surgery, endoscopic coronary artery revascularization, valve repair and many more. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients'; status. The Staff Nurse (RN) is trained in critical care and will be certified in BLS, ACLS, ACUTE CARE, arterial line monitoring, and pacer wires.

Provides direct patient care to support the licensed professional nurses responsible for a team of patients to ensure a safe environment for patients by reducing risk of harm. Collects vital information on the patient and reports such to the nursing team which contributes to the overall assessment of each patient and any changes to a patient's condition.

Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point of care testing as requested.

Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.

Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.

Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.

Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
