Internship Availability and Durations: Internships are onsite at one of our Florida office locations and are approximately 10 weeks in duration. We require a commitment of 20 hours per week and 4-hour time blocks on any scheduled days, through the duration of the internship. Additional hours can be accommodated if requested and approved, to meet graduation or internship course, credit requirements. ACS, Tax, and Audit internships are available to Juniors and Seniors. Tax Admin Internships are available to Freshman and Sophomores.
  • Spring ACS Internships: Early February through mid-April.
  • Spring Audit Internships: Mid-January through late March.
  • Spring Tax Internships: Mid-January through early April.
  • Summer Internships (Audit only): Mid-May through late July.
  • Fall Internships (ACS and Audit only): Late August through the end of October/early November.
Internship Tracks: Accounting Controllership Services (ACS): As an ACS Intern, you'll dive into outsourced accounting work in a variety of industries depending on the assigned team and gain real-world experience supporting client operations. Apply outsourced accounting knowledge to workpapers and assignments to deliver accurate, reliable client data:
  • Use accounting software for client data entry, task management, and documentation.
  • Assist with day-to-day accounting functions such as accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and other transactions prepared by the ACS team.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and research accounting topics to grow your knowledge.
Audit: Audit Interns at James Moore are an essential part of the team, gaining hands-on experience with financial statement audits in a variety of industries depending on the assigned team:
  • Perform audit procedures across a variety of financial statement areas.
  • Learn how to audit specific accounts including cash, accounts receivable, inventory, fixed assets, accounts payable, accrued expenses, debt, and general income statement items.
  • Propose adjusting journal entries when discrepancies are identified.
  • Develop a solid understanding of how to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) through real accounting transactions.
Tax: As a Tax Intern, you'll gain exposure to a variety of tax preparation processes for individuals and businesses in a variety of industries depending on the assigned team:
  • Prepare individual income tax returns.
  • Assist with business tax returns, including those for partnerships and corporations.
  • Support experienced staff with large tax engagements and complex client files.
  • Help prepare adjusting journal entries and other bookkeeping tasks.
  • Collaborate with other departments and teams to deliver high-quality client service.
Tax Admin: As a Tax Admin Intern, you'll gain exposure to a variety of tax administrative and clerical processes. This is open to freshmen and sophomores.
  • Support the team by organizing and maintaining files, reviewing forms for accuracy, and helping with basic processes.
  • Interact with other teams and/or departments.
Required Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • GPA or 3.0 or higher
  • Available to work onsite at least 20 hours per week, with a minimum of 4 hours per day
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Willing to learn and adapt to various technical platforms
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful completion (or enrollment prior to internship start) of Tax I or Audit I or equivalent coursework preferred
