A DOE is required to better understand a structure’s full context, history of maintenance, historical integrity, and significance for potential inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

The intern will work directly with the park historian, museum curator, and archaeologist to access records, conduct site visits, research site histories, and draft DOE reports.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Determinations of Eligibility (DOEs) for the Fort Moultrie Visitor Center and the Liberty Square Unit of FOSU
  • Collaborate with the park historian, museum curator, and archaeologist throughout the DOE process
  • Access and review archival records and documentation related to historic structures
  • Conduct site visits to assess historical context, integrity, and significance
  • Research site history, maintenance records, and historical integrity
  • Draft DOE reports in accordance with National Register of Historic Places criteria and Section 110 requirements

  • Experience in writing and editing
  • Experience with archival and database research
  • Interest in cultural resource management, conservation, preservation, and National Park Service stewardship
  • Exhibits FOSU/CHPI core values, including open communication, empathy, integrity, one-park-one-team mentality, resource stewardship, and respect
