This new math program is an in-person academic support initiative designed to help students strengthen foundational mathematics knowledge and develop effective learning strategies. The program is designed to support students who are seeking to address knowledge gaps, reflect on their learning, build confidence, and prepare for first year university calculus courses. Through interactive instruction, facilitated group work, independent exercises, and feedback, the program aims to improve student readiness, retention, and overall academic success. The program is designed to primarily support students who intend to take first-year calculus classes (MAT 132/34, 135/36).Â
Position Summary:Â
Working collaboratively with the Learning Strategist (Math & Numeracy Focus), the Math and Numeracy Instructor will co-design a 4-week in-person program which combines a review of essential mathematical concepts (e.g., algebra, trigonometry, functions) with learning strategy instruction (e.g., critical thinking, problem solving, resilience, managing test anxiety). The Instructor will develop mathematics co-curricular materials, co-facilitate weekly sessions with the Learning Strategist, create worksheets/math aids, and provide student support and feedback. The Instructor will foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and community-building.Â

Minimum Qualifications:Â
Degree in Mathematics Education or a closely related discipline. Â
Demonstrated knowledge of high school or first-year university-level mathematics, particularly calculus and foundational mathematical concepts. Â
Experience with co-curriculum developmentÂ
Experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating workshops, or providing academic support to post-secondary students in mathematics or computational sciences. Â
Familiarity with student success, retention, and academic support initiatives in a post-secondary environment.Â
Knowledge of evidence-based learning strategies, study skills, math/test anxiety and academic success practices. Â
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively. Â
Experience developing instructional materials, learning activities, or assessments. Â
Ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Â
Strong organizational and time-management skills. Â
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus support units. Â
Proficiency with educational technologies and learning management systems (such as Quercus or similar platforms).Â
Preferred Qualifications:Â
Familiarity with course content of MAT102H, MAT133Y, MAT132/4H, MAT135/6H arepreferred.Â
Experience as a secondary school mathematics teacher, university or college level course instructorÂ
Description of Duties:Â
Participate in planning meetings and program review activities.Â
Design engaging lessons and activities that reinforce foundational mathematics concepts relevant to first-year calculus and mathematics courses. Â
Collaborate with the Learning Strategist to integrate learning strategies and academic skill development into instructional content. Â
Facilitate 3-9 hours of weekly in-person instruction. Â
Support facilitated group-work sessions focused on collaborative learning and problem solving. Â
Encourage student participation, persistence, and confidence throughout the program.Â
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the program's Quercus course shell. Â
